You rip Dier out of the team and you rip out the one player that could potentially be in a Spurs shirt and wearing the captains armband for the next decade controlling the space either between or exclusively in midfield or defence. He has a real football brain, has adapted incredibly well to the league, is still very young. He's the heartbeat of the back 6 for me, for years to come.

He shouldn't be sold - but still, at 60 million, I can't quite believe Levy isn't tempted. Delighted we're sticking our ground.

Yep, future Tottenham and England captain.

Wanyama, Dembele, Winks, Sissoko, Onomah, Dier - that's 6 midfielders besides he's a CMF and CB which is why he plays.

The eyes see what they want to see and you've clearly made your mind up about him, the key thing is what the manager sees and it's evident that Dier is key to what he wants, even if you excuse the general mistakes he makes which is expected of a young player...the potential he carries is pretty massive IMO.
Has Poch ever played Onomah or Sissoko in CM? If Dembele is injured, which he often is, we're left with Dier, Wanyama and Winks. What's the best combination out of those 3?

We're all speculating here. I am giving my opinion-not stating facts. And like anyone else, I can change my mind.
He may well do, but given he was a centre back before Pochettino converted him into a midfielder, he might consider that his current manager knows what's best for him. Also, given Mourinho is about as bad a manager as you can get to play for if you're an up and coming young player that needs further development, he should think very carefully about his next move. If you don't play well for a few games, he'll just replace you with another player for an enormous fee. Another very important thing I would be considering, is that Mourinho never stays at a club for more than 3 years, so he'll be gone in 2 years and replaced by a manager who may not want Dier.

I suspect we'll see him playing in the middle of a back 3 this season, where he will be effectively playing in midfield when we have the ball, and he'll be absolutely fine.
It has been said on this forum that Dier actually played DM at Sporting Lisbon. I am just going on a gut feeling here, but I think that Dier thinks he may know better than Poch. Personally, I see his future at CB.

Now I am with you all the way on Mourinho. I think he's a prick, and I am not convinced it would be a good move for Dier, for the very reasons you give.
So you'll completely disregard Dier's own words on the subject because they don't tally with your opinion? Interesting stance.
If you look at the timing of those quotes, he had just signed a new contract. People are given to all sorts of effusions when they've just been given a pay-rise. Of course he may have meant it at the time, but any position is subject to change.
Well, that's a fucking expensive £60m + salary PR stunt if you ask me.

Personally, I think it's more about keeping him because we want him.
You may be right. But wouldn't we look like ****s if we sold two of our starting eleven to direct rivals in one transfer window? At least that seems to be the general consensus on this forum. And throw in the fact that we haven't signed anyone yet. The dam could break.
If any player had an agent who wasn't leveraging those United stories to get a pay hike, then that player should be looking for a new agent.
My loyalty is to the club. I think Dier's people are the source of a lot of that media circus, and I resent it.
Did he not decide to withdraw from an England u21 squad so he could try and cement his place at Spurs as a CB?
Apparently he withdrew because he wanted to concentrate on honing his trade as a CB, as opposed to playing as a RB. That story dates from late 2014. A lot can change in that time-frame.

So now they are saying we want Carvalho to replace Dier.

Where do they get this stuff from?

Here: http://www.90min.com/posts/5270458-...m-carvalho-should-eric-dier-leave-this-summer

Interestingly I listened to the David Pleat interview and whilst he did say Dier wouldn't be sold, he did later talk about Carvalho (not linked to the previous) as a player he highly rates. If it's true he does have a voice (which he does as we saw with Dele) then its not beyond the realms of possibility that we have identified or short listed him somewhere. Or at least it's been documented.

So according to M.E.N Dier is desperate to join Man United, Danny Rose is being viewed for a transfer next summer, Dele Alli may leave next summer along with the rest of our squad and manager.

Wow.

Edit;
My United supporting mate just told me Sam Luckhurst (guy who wrote the article) is a complete wum, no suprise

I've seen Gary Neville and others criticising the Manchester Evening News for its fabricated stories, badly researched stories, made up quotes, made up interviews and general sharp decline in quality.

Aren't they just fed stories directly from the club?

I was talking more general stories - GNev's criticisms are over his hotel and restaurant business (usually). Sometimes his interest in Salford FC though.

But probably, either that or sourced from Man Utd forums and cleaned up a bit. Fans will want to read things they want to read, after all.

Lined up next to Wanyama id rather play Onomah than Dier. Onomah will take huge steps forward this season, as a player and even more in the eyes of supporters who dont rate him much due to only having seen him out of position. Rather Winks too. Dier is a defensive option

Sounds like the Matic to Utd news is picking up again. Hopefully that'll happen and put and end to this.

I hope we see a 4-3-3 sometime this season, with Wanyama, Onomah and Winks in the middle.

Winks will be in the England squad at some stage this season really think this lad has got what it takes to be a star.

I expect him to get forward more this season and add a few goals to his game.
