Don't think we've been awful, but Dier has been pretty terrible and that's caused a lot of problems for us trying to zip the ball about.

Players aren't really up to speed yet. Very static, rusty passes and safe options. Trippier and KWP getting caught out of position a lot. CCV very good today apart from a couple of passes, swap dier for wanyama and put onomah at CM for a bit and take moose off

that was awful in all fairness. However, this ref is a serious attention seeker and I would not be surprised to see him shit in harry kanes hair this second half to get a little more camera time.

We have too many defensive players on the pitch and are very much missing Eriksen and Son. We really need Danny Rose back to offer some pace, power and threat as well. Too many nothing 'safe' balls. Maybe second half will be better though. It's early days and a good runout for some of the younger players

Ehh I thought Dier was fine. At least he was receiving the ball and trying to move it on and showed some ambition on the ball. Unlike Dembele, who just danced around a bit then either lost it or passed it backward.

Regretting staying up to watch this at this point.....

Shape, and selection not worked so far. We started with some furious pressing, saw Roma were quite a slick outfit on the ball, and so now are just chasing pretty aimlessly.

All in all very rusty 45 mins. Treated the ball like a hot potato, too much of a disconnect from back to front and can't get our game going.

Dembele and Dier have been poor and as a duo been blitzed and you can't have both sitting when we have a back three. Alli and
Kane haven't got started yet in pre-season. Vertonghen is losing Dzeko constantly.

Of the kids I think Onomah has worked harder than some of the others but can't get involved enough. CCV I personally think has been much better in this game - yet the stats will show a harsh penalty against him and a yellow card when he was bailing out his defensive partners mistake.

I really dont think dier is good enough to be playing midfield.hes good positionally but offers nothing when you want somebody to spray passes about.much prefer winks in that positon.

Agree 100%.

Dier getting smashed here for trying, while Dembele is the one who needs to do the creative forward stuff and our number 8. But as we have known Dembele for his whole Tottenham-time - he will never do that.

We definitely need Rose, Son and Lamela back. Hopefully we can get at least 1 of them back by September.

It's quite funny because sometimes I watch him and think he looks like a defender playing in midfield.

I don't think he's suited to a midfield 2, for me he's a centre half or a DM at the base of a 3.

Son should be sometime in September, the other two however. Who knows and also what state they'll return in after massive time off.

We do need to spend some cash despite the current party line coming out of the club. 3 really key injuries to start the season

Pre-season.
Three games in a week, plus flights and heavy promo schedule.
It's just a runaround.
Chill...

Poch just isn't doing us or Dier any favours continually playing him as a CM. He's fucking awful. Can't press and just retreats when they attack, or dives in and sells himself exposing the back 3, the opposite of what he's supposed to do. He walks around hiding from the ball when the defenders or FB's have it, has no vision. Just fucking awful, and has been for a long time. Just cannot understand what Poch is doing.

Our transition is so laboured, as soon as the ball hits the CM's it's like a tempo vortex.

KWP has been sound enough, but playing him left just mutes him somewhat, he just needs to turn back inside every time onto his right. His technique's been good and he's got a couple of good tackles in. CCV's actually done OK in the "3", still think he's not the nimblest on the turn though. Shown decent aggression though. Onomah has tried to get involved and apart from a sloppy ball at the end of the half he's had a couple of decent moments but it would be so much better for him and us as a team to see him played in CM. He'll show for the ball from the CB's and look to move the ball a bit quicker and vertically than the two dithering d's. By constantly playing him as an AM we are just never benefitting from what he can do well. It's almost pointless and very frustrating. He's having to run back 50 yards to get involved every time and then belt it up the pitch to be where Poch wants him to be. Contrast this with Dier who walks around pointing instead of offering himself up, giving-going and getting continually.

Alli and Kane have been pretty disappointing. Expect them both to score hatricks second half then.
