If we know he wants to come and Everton have to sell there is no point making a bid that a) may be higher than might be accepted in the last week b) seems low now and pisses Everton off.

No they don't, just like Sanchez they can decide to take the hit or not sell until Jan.

Sold the best right back in the league. All transfers combined total nearly £70m incoming. Waiting till midnight to even bid for Berahino Barkley. Primary targets Balde, Foyth, and Pereira are off. Rose has said he wants to get paid and the club has no ambition. Wimmer wants more playing time. Wanyama, Trippier, Lamela, Son, and, Manchester United's Danny Rose are injured for the beginning of the season.

Is that a decent summary of the ITK and activity this summer.

If there's speculation that there's a bid for Barkley, what with the accompanying guessing at a fee in the media, it'll likely strengthen Swansea's position knowing there's a great wad of cash about to arrive at Goodison Park.

So, you get Koeman with a U-turn about Barkley possibly staying and all this 'no bid' stuff.

voila!

What if Swansea call their bluff? refuse to drop Sigs fee and/or refuse to sell him? Barkley may then stay and our disasterous transfer window will continue on its current freefall trajectory into oblivion. We can't afford to keep playing these 'waiting games' as the club is currently surrounded by immense negativity (Walker, Rose, injuries, no signings, wage cap, big pile of funds gathering dust) etc etc etc

Well, not having tabled a bid for Barkley isn't overly encouraging...

If we are hoping to get him shouldn't we at least get the inevitable derisive opening offer out of the way so we can spend the rest of the window haggling?

It's got berahino written all over it this transfer.

Have we actually tabled an offer for anybody this summer? Shambles
From memory i dont think any ITK has mentioned that we have tabled a bid for anyone, instead what i think might be happening is levy and co are monitoring situations.
Then if they get the green light and perhaps hear the words " here we go Danny boy a nice cheap one for you", then I think is when we steam in and get the business done swiftly well not swiftly but eventually get it done.
