So far? 3 games? In terms of United that was against West Ham, Swansea and as I understand struggled a bit against Leicester. City struggled for a long while against all of the teams they played so I don’t see how either are suddenly ahead of us. City on paper have a better team but that’s only on paper which they can guarantee with their unlimited funds but they have not yet proved they have a coherent team to do better than us over 38 games.

Son is not inconsistent. That's ridiculous.

It's not ridiculous at all. We've all seen him have games where he's ineffective, and often if he doesn't score he doesn't contribute much. But as I said he's still a hugely important part of the squad.

I just think we'd be in a better position to challenge City and United (and Chelsea) if we had another attacking option. The great hope is that Lamela fills that role, but he hasn't for a while and I suspect he won't for a while more.

And yes you're right it's only three games so far. Doesn't prove anything. I'm just hoping we click soon.

What about the games where Sane/Sterling/De Bruyne/Silva/etc. don't produce? Over the past couple of years it's been more than our guys.

You've just highlighted it yourself.

If they have an off day there's three guys to replace them. Same with Aguero and Jesus.

If Son or Alli have an off day who do we bring in? That's my concern.

I should point out that I'm not criticising the club for not being able to match the likes of City, United and Chelsea.

We've really got no right to even be near them considering the money they've spent and we've done brilliantly to be in the mix.

Satisfied with the signings made. All make sense.

Not bothered about some pace merchant that virtually everyone has droned on and on about all summer.

I am concerned though that we haven't got any alternative to Eriksen and the role he plays. I think that's what fans should be worried about. If he is out for any significant period of time I think we're in quite a bit of trouble.

It's true he's very prolific and I'm not saying he's a bad player at all. In fact this 'pace' that everyone was obsessed with is largely covered when he's playing.

But he's not the player who's going to suddenly unlock a team with a killer pass like Eriksen, or by going past players, and that's where I think we do lack options.

Kane, Alli and Son are all primarily finishers. I'm just concerned how much they'll have to finish if anything happens to Eriksen (and assuming Lamela continues with his injury issues).

As I've said elsewhere it's far from a calamity, and as you said last season showed how potent our attack can be when it gets going. I just think there are a couple of teams with more options than us, and I think that will be telling in a title race that we are already behind in.

You can probably say the same thing about everyone else apart from City that they will lack options if one of their main stars are not playing, that's really not exclusive to us. We just gotta hope Eriksen remains fit and Lamela comes back as the player he was, even so I think we'll go back for Barkley in Jan anyway so for me it's not a valid concern at the moment.

Also I wouldn't take the first 3 matches where we always seem to be sluggish under Pochettino as a barometer for how the season will go, remember last season where everyone was creaming themselves over Liverpool and how many goals they scored in the early months?

But we are matching them.

Let's assume Rose is fit soon (Lamela takes longer).

First choice side is probably

Lloris
Auirer Sanchez Toby Jan, Rose
Dembele Wanyama
Alli Kane Eriksen

That gives us a bench from

Vorm Trippier, Davies, Dier, Son, Winks, Sissoko, Nkodo, Jansen, Llorente

I'd say that's pretty good

I'd dispute that and say his scoring record is pretty consistent, especially considering his is often in and out of the squad.

You said United and City have been pretty potent so far. I don't think they have, especially City who have the strongest squad as we all probably agree. Therefore making any snap judgments on any team after 3/38 games is pointless.

I said this in the transfer forum but after window just closed, this is how i see our squad.

Defence: Easily best in the league

Strikers: Easily top 4 in league

Central Midfield: This is Wanyama, Dier, Dembele, Winks etc. Possibly best in league.

Attacking midfield/Forward players: Eriksen, Son, Lamela, Sissoko, Alli etc. My main area of concern. Great when all fit but I worry about Lamela coming back and Alli suspended in Europe. Sissoko just not that good.

Anyway, in summary, was a decent enough window. There a lot of supporters of other clubs who have more to worry about than us

We signed Nkoudou a year ago and he has had very limited opportunities and has generally looked ok without doing anything amazing . Everyone is writing him off. Even if we had signed another winger he would have probably just been an impact sub / domestic cups player. The fact that we signed 2 highly regarded centre backs means that most likely we are going to play 3 at the back with wing backs. We didn't sell Rose and hopefully he will soon be back. In the meantime Davies is doing a competent job there. When we need more width Nkoudou should come on and maybe Lamela will eventually be fit. There were times last season when we were up by 3 or 4 goals and Sissoko would always get on with Nkoudou staying on the bench. Opportunities wasted .

I said throughout the window that we should have signed Mahrez which would have added another attacking midfield option. I think Poch sees Winks as the back up to Eriksen so let's hope he gets more opportunities. But having said that I'm fairly happy that we have replaced Walker, added more options at the back and importantly have a proven credible back up to Kane at least in the short term.

Agree about the Eriksen issue but I do think Lamela can do this to a degree when back fit. Hooefully that is the idea. But very hard to find another player at his level

Our squad is great, once we get into stride we're going to be one tough rock to stop.

We have goals and defensive fortitude going from last season stats and a powerful midfield.

It'll be fantastic if Kane Alli Son Eriksen and other continue or better last season stats and say one /all of Lamela N'koudou Janssen Llorente etc kick on we're title contender.

It's a great squad but probably not good enough to compete for the title.

We just lack that depth in terms of attacking threat that the moneybags teams have and I think that has been clear in the first three games.

Barkley will help in January and I think a fit Lamela makes a big difference but I'm not sure we're ever going to see that.

So overall it's a fantastic squad. But if our ambitions are winning the title it's still a bit short.

We scored more goals than any other side last season and just added a proven goal scorer who netted fifteen PL goals last season. What part of scoring goals is missing from this team?

No "money bags" team scored more so i just don't understand your point at all.

Yet we created more chances than anyone else in the PL last season, and have created the 2nd most so far this season, so maybe you are over estimating our opposition options and under estimating ours?

Spot bollock on.

Half the guff some people come out with are from reading tripe and following like sheep without a hint of understanding what Poch has just achieved with the three main signings this transfer window. Some just cannot connect the dots.

Delighted with the squad.

Assuming everyone's available my strongest XI would be :

Lloris
Sanchez, Toby, Jan,
Aurier, Wanyama,Dembele,Rose,
Eriksen, Alli
Kane

At Some point in season, I would like to see 3-5-2 with Kane & Llorente up top. If its a EFL cup, would like to see Janssen & Llorente playing to gether. I believe both Kane & Janssen could benefit of playing alongside Llorente...

The problem is, they have basically unlimited money so they can afford to have 2-3 top quality players for each position almost. Nobody other than City, PSG etc. can do that. We've got a better bench than everyone in the PL except City IMO.

Maybe you're right about my view of other teams, although City and United have looked fairly potent so far.
Utd have played some poor teams in those 3 games yet have created just 1 more chance than us and we have created 10 more chances than City. If these games were played in any other month, Kane would probably be top goal scorer now, it's just a shame he can't score for toffee in August.
