How long does he have left on his contract? If we can't get his head right soon I fear we won't see him play again :(

If he at least doesn't starts making the bench during the next three/four games after the international break, then I will have to start agreeing with this sentiment.

I love Lamela, I think he has the potential to be our best and most important player (yeah, Kane and Lloris included), but I would be lying if I say I'm not starting to feel a bit worried about his position in the squad.

He’s a good player but more important than Kane and Lloris?

Based on everything we’ve seen from Lamela so far in a Spurs shirt, if he came back and produced his best form for the club, he’d currently be about 8th most important player...and that’s probably being generous!

I just want him back playing football. He gives us another option

Lamela is an example of one of those players who becomes better and more important the longer be is out. Give it a few more years injured and his stint with us will be remembered like the 2nd coming of Maradona.

I don't believe he will ever play for us again but even if he does I don't think he will be half the player most seem to think he is. He has goods technique and is tenacious but is one paced and can't beat a man. He needed to find a yard of pace even before the injury so what is a year out going to achieve?

I love me a bit of Coco but that statement if i must say is a tad strong, Kane is arguably the best Centre forward on the planet (there is an argument though some may say that my statement is is a tad strong) and it would take something extraordinary for Lamela to come back a year out of the game and be up there with the best in his position in the world...heres to hoping though.

Lamela needs to be loaned out in Jan, preferably to another premiership team. We can then judge if his attitude, work ethic and ability are still of the required standard, if not then he’ll be out the door in the summer. Bring Barkley in and we’ll be set to fight for a top 3 finish for the rest of the season.

Based on what?

Based on how important he was to our pressing game the season and a half before he fucked his hip. Look, this season's victories against Dortmund, Liverpool and Madrid have been wonderful to witness, really... but they were based on a counter attacking style that's a. easy to adapt against after a while and, b. not as effective when the rival is so wonderful at controling the ball (I'm talking about Barcelona... haven't seen enough of PSG yet to see if that also would describe them).

BTW, I'm aware that pressing a team like Barcelona might be suicide... but it may also be the answer.

What I'm saying is, if we want any slight chance of making it real far into the CL this season, and also challenging City (and Chelsea/United) for the PL title, then we will have to start playing our pressing style again sooner or later against the more dominant sides, and Lamela might be key to that. In fact, he might be the key (along with the return of Victor Wanyama).

And that's why I think Lamela could turn out to be a bit more important to us than both Harry and Lloris, that is, if he ever returns at all.

The thing about Lamela is that he is a downright natural on the ball and capable of the sublime. Plus he works his ass off on and off the ball. I worry about the impact of his tough past year but I think if we stick by him he might be able to give us at least one or two top class seasons soon.

It's definitely true to say we haven't pressed teams this season the way we have in previous seasons. Maybe not having Wanyama and Lamela have impeded that ability, I don't know.
I think it will be a welcome return when it does happen and at least give us a more creative option from the bench.

We were saying the exact same thing this time last season, I remember there was a massive thread on why we weren't pressing anymore. We didn't start really pressing teams until gone Christmas.

i wish people will stop going on about lamela and substance abuse.I can tell you that this rumour was invented by Harry Hotspur who will write any lie and make up any ludicrous story as long as it makes spurs and in particular Daniel Levy look bad .
Please please dont buy this excuse for a human being;s downright lies and mischief makings

It's weird how widespread that rumour has become as well, I was talking to some guy on the train back from the RM game who believed it as well..

one thing i know is that lamela is never going to be that player that will take us to the next level. he will never be the mane to liverpool, hazard to chelsea, kdb to manc, mahrez to leicity.

hes a great option to have, especially being able to play multiple position and be eriksen's back up.

if nobody wants him i will not sell him on the cheap just because i want to get rid of him.

but if a decent offer comes along i will take it in a heart beat, pair it with a lil bit more cash and really try for another option.

we already know what lamela is gonna give us and hes never gonna make us champions.

He's a decent player, but no game changer. We have coped pretty well without him so far and if he was available, do you honestly think we would a won the league last season..

I think we'd've had a much better chance. Someone was criticising him for not having a change of pace or beating a man, but as well as his pressing in defence what we've missed in attack is his perfectly weighted through balls which beat an entire defence, not just one man. Against teams that park the bus and the top 6, at his best he could be vital against both, especially when Eriksen is off the boil, or needs a rest. Let's just hope we get to see him at his best.

Poch doesn't seem to be the type that is over cautious with injury returnee's GB. I sadly think ralvy has a point there. He might be unwanted by the manager. I suppose we'll find out by the end of Jan.

My response was to the suggestion he could become our most important player.
