They have enough assets in the current squad plus stadium etc.....

I think after the summer let down over possible targets, we would have believed that Barkley would be given come January. But I can see why we have not went for him , as some have already mentioned.
That said signing someone as a statement of intent to appease fans would be ideal, as too many times over the previous year’s we’ve heard excuses when players are not signed and their potential alternatives haven’t signed either.

Clearly ITk with superior knowledge to mine but saying trust Levy is a pretty bold ask when time and time again he has not delivered on transfer targets where there is genuine competition for the player

Meh.

Never rated him really, another Drinkwater for Chelsea.
Decent for 10 to 15 mill In that it's a experienced body to beef up our midfield options with just sissoko, winks and a beat up Dembele but not one to lose sleep over .

Saying that I don't believe we have other targets, bigger fish or anything else lined up.

Rather we brought back Josh and played him and next to wanyama

So this other target we’ve got wrapped up who’s loads better than RB must’ve only come to our attention in the last few weeks. Strange seeing as it’s meant to be a big name. Makes you think why we bothered stringing Barkley along when we really wanted this other guy or, like I said, we’ve only just become aware of him and he’s just told us he lives and breathes chicken badge.

We will have to wait and see, it does sound a bit like a carrot dangle but i do feel we need additional options now and not wait untill the summer.

If we’ve moved on fine. I just find it hard to believe that someone we’ve chased for over a year is now not on our radar. Very odd for the money on the table.

Yeah, i can see Barkley saying sometime in the future that we were really keen on him etc,etc and then started acting really weird towards him and the potential transfer. We can add him to the list of players who've said that in the past.

IMO we wanted Barkley because he was, prior to injury and surgery, cheap and EPL proven. Levy doesn't buy injury risk players, especially not to put them on 100k. Our hopes were that Barkley would be match fit by now but that obviously hasn't happened and we may have to move on to a different option, i.e. a quality player who would cost a sizable fee. My fingers are fully crossed for Kovacic (who I would have ahead of Barkley any day of the week). I'd also be very interested in Seri.

Mate, we’re not signing Kovacic.

I might be wrong but Everton always said he’d be out until the NY so I don’t know why we’d think he’d be back sooner.

Maybe our Champions league results have made us more attractive to palyers who wouldnt have looked at us last window?
