What does a team get from winning this cup or the FA Cup?
How does it help them.progress?
Here's what I think.
The immediate financial benefits are insignificant in comparison to EPL an CL.
However people forget that the team you support usually gets decided when you are a child and the majority go for whoever is the most succesful. If you ask a child if he wants to support Arsenal or Spurs they'll probably ask what have they won. If you then tell them we won this 'worthless cup' 10 years ago and won fk all since but we did finish in top 4 3 times that will mean nothing to them but tell them you won fa cups, league cup and are in cl most years that will mean something to them
So size of future fan base.
The prestige and world recognition. While not massive it still does a lot to get your brand recognised around the world and you're mentally recognised as winners, not finished 4th, WINNERS.
Then theres money from sponsorship deals. Any shirt, stadium naming rights, etc will be far more appealing to businesses for a team that has had more recogntion and exposure than a team that hasn't had jack shit for 10 years. Even if those sponsors arent directly involved in cup sponsorship it still adds to the brand recognition.
Then theres bringing in players. Join team A who never win anything or Team B who have won cups. No they haven't won the league but players want to win things.
So I'm sorry to piss on some peoples parade but winning does matter even if the immediate benefits aren't obvious and frankly we sound like we're just jealous by dismissing these cups like 'who cares.'
