I realise this is still very much a hypothetical question, despite the picture that is emerging appearing to suggest that the Alderweireld situation might well conclude in him leaving for his 'market value' this summer.
In the event of him leaving, however, I think the question of how we replace him is an interesting one, and so worthy of a separate thread for people to share their thoughts in.
The main decisions appear to be whether we:
1) spend the money on attempting to replace him directly, by buying a top-class centre-back of comparable quality (as far as that's possible), with a view to that player being a 1st choice, senior member of the squad
or
2) give Dier that role, and then spend the money on buying another top class defensive midfielder to fill the position that Dier moving back would vacate in the midfield. Given what Pochettino has said about seeing Dier's best position as being in defence - and of him having the potential to be the best centre-back in the league - this idea would likely be on his mind, you would think.
3) Back Sanchez and Foyth to step up, and then promote Carter-Vickers to 4th choice CB/buy a new young centre back to compete with Sanchez and Foyth.
I'll put this into a poll as well so people can vote on there as well as discussing thoughts.
