It’s funny how players are perceived. Toby has actually made less PL appearances than dembele over 4 seasons. Yet everyone perceives dembele virtually at the end of the road and someone we can’t rely on and must be replaced. When dembele is only 1 year older.

Look at Barkley 5 years younger had a very similar injury and is really struggling. People think oh just a hamstring no big deal. When it’s a 3-4 month lay off with a hamstring it’s a very big deal. Although attackers Torres and Owen were never the same players again. There may be a lot more to this contract situation than meets the eye.

Barkley’s hammy tore off the bone. I don’t think Toby’s was that bad.

Toby's performance improved as the game went by. But he did look rusty: a couple of misplaced passes, not looking up to speed, slghtly uncomfortable on the ball. I guess that's what we could've expected anyway, so no need to dramatize. But on the basis of this game, he's certainly not there yet. Paradoxically, he'll need games now.

Exactly right but we’re at the stage of the season where we can’t mix it up just because it’ll get a player fully match fit.
Poch’s line-ups have always been fairly settled during the latter stages of a season (other than full-backs previously).

We were (probably) more than happy for Toby to play 90 mins in a friendly against Saudi Arabia. It gets rid of some rustiness (also displayed against Rochdale) and aids his recovery.

However it seems Poch is happy with the current Jan/Sanchez partnership and sees it as too much of a risk to throw Toby back in. He might pencil in stoke away, but I’d be amazed if he starts Sunday.

Slow fat and injury prone.

Lets break his hamstrings up some more than mug him off to barca or psg for 80m.

Jokes on them.

Well his job is to cover the Belgian players in the Premier League, bit weird he wasn't watching his national team as a footy journo but I have no idea what he was doing

Masturbating.

Best post you’ve ever made.

We’ve been spilt in the last few seasons by a centre back pairing where both players could do it all. I think it’s time to accept that, with Jan not getting any younger, the next few years will be more of a King-Dawson/ Ferdinand-Terry partnership, one player for brains, one for brawn.

I think Roberto Martinez is trying to force MoPo hand. He has come out to publicly say that Toby is completely fit, contrary to what MoPo has said, and now he is stating thatToby needs more game time to be sure of his place in the National team. In the very near future this could create a problem of Toby versus Club.

Eh. Judging by how his party seems to acting in the contract negotiations, Toby’s likely to demand a move anyway in the summer and Poch probably realizes that so I dont really think it’ll bother him too much.

There is a small difference in that TA gets more serious injuries with long term lay offs, Dembele in the past 2-3 seasons tends to play a few games then breaks down and can't play for a couple weeks, rinse and repeat.

Does it really matter, at the end of the day it’s about games missed, but I take your point. Tweeting again today back at Hotspur way. Definitely seems to tweeting a lot lately, something weird is going on. As said feel there’s a lot more to this than we know about. He seems quite positive and enthusiastic, maybe the club really don’t value him anywhere near what he values himself.

Part of the problem with International football is that they really don't give a fuck about the players fitness. It's even more annoying when player's rehab is put at risk in meaningless friendlies.

You sound like a united or Liverpool fan

A cynic would say that all this social media activity is a ploy to paint the club as the bad guy in this contract stand off.

A realist would say he probably just has an enthusiastic social media team.

The truth is likely somewhere in between.

couldnt agree more, said this a few days ago, thing is as blatant as it is, people will fall for it, and levy/poch.spurs etc will be painted in the bad.
