@Lighty64 you are like the ying to @yankspurs's yang: absolutely believing on blind faith that we will definitely be okay, just like good ol' Hank can sometimes get himself convinced that we have a 100% probability to fuck important situations up.

To quote Steven Seagal in Marked For Death, "They were both wrong!"

I just feel that there is to much over reaction before the Chelsea match has even kicked off.

if Chelsea win, I will get a little bit more nervous, but people posting that we will struggle v Newcastle, yet forget that Chelsea play them there, and haven't beaten Newcastle since 2011/12. Also remember some of their players might be rested for it with the FA Cup final the week after. Liverpool won't be easy as they know if they lose, they can miss out on a CL place. They can't take it for granted that they will beat Brighton, and Liverpool only need 1pt to confirm CL football next season

if we can get the 1st goal v them on Wednesday then I don't feel we will lose, and as they have absolutely nothing to fight for, they won't stick 11 men behind the ball and try and scrap a draw. I see this very similar to the Watford game, the only difference being the players KNOW they can't afford to not try, they will know how important that the CL is important to take into the new stadium.

just because Newcastle beat us 2 years ago, doesn't mean they will this season, and at the moment I just don't see why Leicester will all of a sudden start playing when they have done very little in their last 5 matches.

@yankspurs over-reacts on any bad result, I only react if the result actually ENDS any hope(y)

I just wish we were playing better and I'd be a lot more positive despite the results. We're playing a team who just lost to Watford and then a team who just lost 5-0 to Palace and more recently at home to West Ham but then, the Watford game on paper at that point was one of the easiest games we could have had and we were very lucky to win it.

I just don't want to see a slow ponderous Wembley performance. Would love to just have us with our shooting boots on, on the night and that we can win convincingly. Of course I'll take any win, but I'm thinking about my health too :(

So if Chelsea fail to win tomorrow a win on Wednesday will see us safe right? Just need Liverpool to at least get a draw!

Unfortunately Liverpool know that a win against Brighton will get them CL no matter what happen against Chelsea. So Chelsea’s motivation level is likely to be a lot higher. They have to win and unfortunately they probably will.

Chelsea win tomorrow then Liverpool will be panicking too, and yes we will be in a position of failure, but at least wait until the result of tomorrow before you start throwing your toys out of the pram
i kinda disagree there tbh. If ones going to throw ones toys out the window, it’s going to be about our own performances. If Chelsea do or don’t win tomorrow it’s got fuck all to do with us, so throwing toys at that point is utterly futile. it’s our ‘failings’ upsetting me right now. Not other results

Liverpool winning is the only way we'll get CL imo really that simple. The way these lot are playing we're gonna get 2 pts maximum from the last 2

Well I don't think that's the case, but I too don't trust the way we're playing at the moment and because of that I don't find much comfort in the fact that we're even playing teams we should beat.

Unfortunately Liverpool know that a win against Brighton will get them CL no matter what happen against Chelsea. So Chelsea’s motivation level is likely to be a lot higher. They have to win and unfortunately they probably will.

They may not have the same level of motivation, but I still think their level of motivation will be high. Regardless of who they play on the last day I think they'll want to wrap things up as soon as they can in the hope that it won't be a one game shootout, where anything can happen.

so why wouldn't Liverpool think, lets get a draw to confirm CL football and be able to rest players and be fresher for the CL Final

since we beat Chelsea, we have lost 2 games and drawn 1 v teams playing for something, the game today was lost through their keeper pulling off a few good saves and scoring an offside goal. since they changed to Darren Moore they have shown more grit, but today was just a case of not putting our chances away, it happens

They might think it would be nice to get points tomorrow but for Chelsea it’s win or bust. So far they are winning all their matches since dropping points to us and West Ham. I agree Liverpool will compete but a combination of Chelsea being on a roll and most likely Liverpool being flat again after their mid week battle with Roma point to only 1 winner.

Yeah I could of course see it playing out like that. The good thing is that Chelsea will still need to be somewhat cautious, because as much as you want to win a game, you can't leave yourselves open against this Liverpool team but also, we don't need Liverpool to win, if they can achieve a draw it would be perfect too. Just really hope a result like this can finally go our way.

I hope so but many of us have been burnt by the 15/16 season when we went 1-up against a WBA team - who had nothing to play for - and drew, then went 2-up against a Chelsea team - again with nothing to play for- and again drawing 2-2. Next we went 1-up against a Southampton team - once again, nothing to play for - and lost 1-2. I don't need to mention the abomination at Newcastle.

When we are desperate for a win, I've noticed a bit of a pattern in our play, we can start strong show early signs of intent and then seemingly run out of ideas and finish with a whimper - today, United, Juventus, etc.

and after the match tomorrow Poch will be asking the players, "do you want Europa, or CL bonuses?"
To which some may reply "I'll take that offer from Barca, United, Madrid, etc please"

Poch has to get them firing again. I'm not sure what the right way to approach it is but Poch needs to reverse our performance/form immediately because I'm watching those players and seeing their body language and I'm not confident one iota.

Turn up against Newcastle and put in a strong performance and I'll feel much much better. It's time to turn up now.

I've had a sneaky feeling about Eriksen - I think he's had his head turned - He was in the form of his life for club and country but he's had a wobble, came back and having another wobble now.

when we played WBA there was something on it, they wanted to help Leicester's title challenge, and I was there that night and we should of been well out of sight, until they started to play in the 2nd half. Chelsea nothing to play for? Claudio Raneri! remember him, plus being a rival, that hadn't beaten them for 25years at their place, of course they had something to play for.

Southampton's equaliser came against the run of play, and should of been stopped due to a head injury. The Newcastle game, we all ready had CL group stage confirmed, and came out thinking we only had to show up to get a point, then realised after going 2-0 down we had to start making an effort. yes they went down to 10 men when 2-1 down, but we threw everything at them got done by a quick break, and dive by Sissoko. that penalty knocked the stuffing out of us.

United and Juventus are top teams, what done us was our finishing in the 1st half and sloppy mistakes, that doesn't guarantee we will make them v Newcastle and Leicester. The Newcastle game on Wednesday might be harder if Chelsea beat Liverpool as Rafa might try and help Liverpool, but if Liverpool draw or beat Chelsea tomorrow who have been scrapping past teams since we beat them, then we might get the Newcastle that haven't bother showing up since they secured PL for next season.

lets at least wait and see how tomorrow goes before any panic is needed

so do you honestly believe we didn't deserve something from today, and the players never tried to break down the WBA defence? we had 5 efforts on goal, they had 1 and fluked a scramble

I think he was one of a few that was putting in more effort v Watford, and I thought the whole team where better today, but sometimes you just don't get the breaks, and today was one of them

to be honest, we wouldnt deserve top 4 if somehow we drop points against Puel's Leicester. They have been awful as of late. I think we will scrap it, but it is a cause of concern how bad we have been since Chelsea.

Newcastle is an evening game. Fans could do their part. Get on the booze Wednesday evening and attempt to create some atmosphere to get us over the line.

Chelsea will beat Liverpool and win their remaining games. So we need a win and a draw to finish top 4.
The two teams we have left to play...
Newcastle and Leicester.
Both lost today, both in crap form and both teams we are far superior to.
We should do it.
Just a shame it’s not as simple as that and the fact our players look completely shot.

you forgot to put before the bolded that "in my opinion", and perhaps why you think they will, because Liverpool are not going to rely on Brighton sitting on the beach next Sunday. there is a possibility that Houghton might get his players up for it, knowing he will help a team that started his career in football.
