Yeah, De Heavy is the only player we'd pay £70 million for.
I didn't want De Light anyway, I wanted Dat Light or Dis Light...

Would you not think the club has intelligence to realise that spending a vast amount on one player may reduce funds for other signings?
Reality check.....
It's clear some people are not quite grasping the fact that despite what we have achieved in the last 3-4 seasons we are still someway down the pecking order in comparison to some of the other big clubs throughout Europe, both financially and in stature. We have managed to claw our way up to being ultra competitive by following a strict and proven game plan as far as transfers are concerned, and that is not going to change much in the near future. Perhaps when the stadium is up and running and has consistently generated the income it has been built to provide things may change somewhat but until then don't expect a dramatic change in the way we do business.
We are looking for a better quality/pedigree of player this Summer than in previous windows but the World Cup is not helping on that front. Some agents(and this is fact) are telling their players unless they are being courted by Europe's elite to hold fire on signing for anyone. Their is no rush for them and from a financial POV a good WC will increase the demand and in turn the financials they can ask for from a new club. The only way around this is to pay OTT in the first place, and we don't have a bottomless pit of cash to pull from. Every player we over pay for has a knock on effect to everything we are trying to do, be it other signings or contracts for existing players.
This is not all doom and gloom, it's just the reality of where we are as a club. Everything I'm hearing points to us being a fair bit stronger come the end of the window than we are now, but it's not going to happen in the first couple of weeks of the window, and it's not going to be by us out bidding the Elite sides in Europe for the same player.
Thanks Trix, makes sense. What is interesting here is that a lot of our targets per ITK aren't going to the World Cup, so it's possible there are a few key targets still under wraps...
No way that we're gonna pay 70 milions for a youngsters. Ludacris media claims
It was Chris Tucker...What?*

The Math doesn't work if one player costs 70m,whilte the other costs 50m leaving small amount for a cm.
Priorities I suppose..

Anyway, always worth remembering that quoted fees are normally inclusive of all sorts of add-ons, so £70m might well be the "worst case scenario total", and the general fee being much lower. Not that it's for us mere fans to worry about, that's for the pen pushers
