Pochettino is a keen admirer of Anthony Martial but United are opposed to selling the France forward, who has also attracted interest from Chelsea, to an English club. If Tottenham insisted on taking Martial as part of any negotiations over Alderweireld, a deal for the defender could easily break down and force United to pursue other central defensive targets.
So What !!! Who gives a flying f*ck if Man Utd have to look elsewhere for central defensive targets. If they won't do a deal then why the f*ck should we ? Man Utd are not the be all and end all of football and they are not the rulers of football, even if they and many of their idiot bandgwagon jumping fans and Mourinho think they are !! Gone are the days when they think they can just snap their fingers and we will just let them have whoever they want. Let them and their pathetic media loving cronies bang on about how they are gonna do this and that and get this player and that player, they can jog the f*ck on and I hope Levy tells them the same if they want it all their own way !!!!

Being fairly new to posting here, I'm going to go out on a limb & express my belief that Toby going to ManU is simply bad for football.

Mourinho is the antithesis of Poch's style of play, particularly going forward.

Both know how to win but take vastly different approaches.

Mourinho is a brooding, negative, win at any cost type of manager & he does it well.
He's a football philistine as he strips all the beauty out of the game. Hence why so many of his skillful, attacking players suffer under him.

ManU had the best defensive record in the Prem this past season yet only the 5th highest number of goals for despite having such expensive talent going forward such as Lukaku, Alexis, Martial, Mata, Pogba, Lingard & Rashford. These players thrived elsewhere yet he squeezes the life out of them & opponents with his suffocating style of play.

I fear if Toby was to go there, defensively he would improve what many already believe is a fairly 'meh' back line thus further reducing their goals against. Consequently, ManU would need to score even fewer goals in order to succeed. Now, having shored up his defense even more, would Mourinho be willing to change his style of play? He's stated & proven everywhere he's gone that he wouldn't. Conversely, Poch would then focus on how his players could best express themselves going forward.

Yes at RM, Mourinho's team scored many goals but 90% of the clubs they played against were significantly weaker. Even mid-table EPL or Bundesliga teams would score goals there for fun. La Liga is an inferior league less 3-4 clubs. In the EPL there is a much greater sense of parity.

In Martial, there is a talent lost in that shell of a player that Mourinho has disposed of & I have no doubts that Poch could resuscitate him. Would he bring the best out of him? That's to be seen as part of the onus is also on the player in how he responds.

I have mentioned "going forward" a number of times but having Toby go to ManU would be taking the EPL game as a whole 2 steps backwards.

I would rather Toby go anywhere other than ManU simply for the good of football.

This is such a fantastic post. A really good tactically sound and well formed post! Do it more often!

So according to reports mourinho would rather jeopardize the deal for Toby than let Martial join an English club...sums it up doesn't it?

Tell Jose if he doesn’t want to give us Martial in return for Toby, then the new Utd manager can just pay the £25mill release clause in 12months time.

I really agree with this. I remember watching him a few times last year, thinking what it would've been like if we had got him ahead of UTD, and in turn, what would his relationship be like with the rest of the team and Poch. Given that our recent success over the last few years is somewhat attributable to team chemistry, it sorta made me wonder if we dodged a bullet.

His body language comes across as whiny and visibly frustrated when things aren't going his way. I get the feeling that wouldn't sit well with Poch, and would rub some of our players the wrong way. But hey... maybe if we purchased him, it'd see a change in his attitude. Then again... I find that doubtful.
Jan vertonghen used to be exactly the same. Poch seems to have done the business with him don't see why he couldnt with martial.

Hopefully MP could 'do the business' more often than not but a lot depends on how the player responds. There have been plenty that MP has written off.

Not read through the thread but I assume this has been spoken about a bit....

Kane, Eriksen, Dele, Son, Lamela, Lucas and Llorente - they are our current attacking players fighting for 3 or 4 places. If we buy Martial, which the latest ITK suggests we’re really going for, who would be sold? Obviously Llorente will go but that still leaves 7 players in 3/4 positions. It looks like it would have to be Lamela - I know he has some critics but I really like him. I’d hate it if he left. And ideally we need a proper Kane back up no? Son isn’t as effective there as he is on the left but it’ll prob be him.

We’re gonna have a great squad if none of those are sold, that’s for sure.

Llorente's as good as gone I would've thought. And between Son and Martial there'd be sufficient backup for Harry.

We’ve also got Vinnie to come back. As for a back up to Kane; recruitment has failed spectacularly. I like the idea of Martial who could play with or step in for Kane. Keeps the player active which has damaged Llorente and Janssen.

Im not sure about Martial being a Kane replacement. Like Son, you put him there and he can probably do a job but you’re taking him out of his best position. Llorente didn’t get a look in so no one is really going to want to come to be back up and not get a game, but there must be a very promising youngster somewhere who will be up for it.

Must say, I think Martial could be a cracking player for us...

He does however play in the same position as Son and in a similar style, from what I've seen...
Son is far more direct in his approach, he tries to outpace you then pop a shot, Martial will kill you with not only his pace but his incredible close dribbling skills, makes him harder to defend against imo

Martial is the sort of player that when I see him in the Utd team against us I get worried. That is the sort of player I want for our team - the kid has a ton of talent and could be a real world beater if given the chance to progress.

In all honestly I feel that Lamela will most likely leave in the next few windows. Hasn't been effective at all and I know that this is down to injuries but we need to make the step up now and start competing. I'd happily give him another window but if someone can come in and replace him that will provide a much bigger impact, I'm all for it!

Would love it as well from Arsenal having to watch a player with Thierry Henry like talents and play style playing for Spurs. He's obviously not Henry right now but at the same age Henry was just making his move to Arsenal. This kid has all the potential and ability in the world ahead of him and I can only imagine how motivated he will be after not making the World Cup squad. Give him that #9 shirt and let him and Kane go nuts. Or #14 is available too so could rub it in Arsenals faces a little more..

He has 9 goals (I think no penalties?) and 5 assists in his 1582 minutes league performance this season. I think this is very promising. And I think Man utd always attack in a more fluid way when he is on the pitch

Really wanted him first time around. Didn't utd pay £70m with ad ons
36million with add ons rising to 60million or so. Don't think he really achieved many if not all of the requirements to jump the fee.

Son got a ton of goals covering kane. Wasn't it 7 in 4 games just gone. We also had a good record.
