From The Jerusalem Post

Just days after immigrating to Israel, Roman Abramovich, the Russian billionaire businessman and owner of the soccer team Chelsea FC, has withdrawn his application for an investor visa to the United Kingdom, The Jerusalem Post has learned.......................Sources close to the businessman said that after receiving Israeli citizenship, he no longer requires a visa to travel to the United Kingdom.
Nevertheless, without a visa, Abramovich will not be allowed to work in England and as a result has put all future investments in the country on hold, a source close to the billionaire told The Post. News of the visa withdrawal came as Chelsea FC announced that it was freezing its new stadium project, a decision that was tied to the delay in receiving a new visa.

Would probably just mean some other oil-rich billionaire takes them over. Rinse and repeat.

Would it though? It’s a lot of money to spend on a club. It’s a billion quid to begin with. Surely there can’t be that many people who’d want them and be a good owner.

No idea. All speculation really, just enjoying the sense of impending doom hanging about them at the moment.

Think this is because of 2 possibilities.
1/ he thinks witholding investment will spur the british government to grant his visa.
2/ he is scared that the anti russian sentiment and us pressure mean that he could have his assets seized.

Hope the second. He might pull as much money as he can out of chelsea.

Holy cow!!

Can you imagine an asset-stripping fire-sale at Chelsea?

Also, if they do (eventually) get rid of Conte, I wonder if the uncertainty around Roman will seriously hinder their manager search?

If its #2, that could mean the government seizes Chelsea and calls in the loan themselves:ROFLMAO:

Im really enjoying this. Hope that scenario happens as the gov’t seizing control and calling in the loan thats propping them up couldnt happen to a nicer bunch.

Pure politics. Who’s going to blink first? Her Majesty’s Government or Roman. That said, I think these are end days for Chelsea. The crackdown on Russian money in the UK will see him sell up eventually.

A little from column A, a little from column B I suspect. I know if I had any money I wouldn't want 1bn+ of assets tied up in a country where I'm not allowed to work and where the government are actively trying to find new ways to fuck me over.
