I have a couple of gooner friends, one who’s sensible and another who isn’t. The latter text me today...

Him: Oooooohh Poch now favourite. Scenes!

Me: Doubt he’ll go, he just signed a new contract last week when he knew Zidane could get sacked if they lost the final

Him: He’s outgrown you lot. He’s too good a manager for a club like Spurs. You lot were a stepping stone for him and were always gonna struggle to hang on to him.

Me: We’ll see.

An hour later or so, I sent him the quotes confirming he’s staying. His reply:

‘Not bothered. He still won’t win you anything. Is he all that anyway? Just shows no ambition when Madrid want him and he doesn’t go. This time next year you’ll be back in our shadow’.

Gooners, ladies and gents. I replied saying he’s become ClichéMan, the world’s dumbest superhero.

Twitter has turned them into a hive mind mate. It's crazy. I get deja vu talking to my bro in law and one of the lads from my football team!

He’s 43.

43.

That reply is awful in itself, but especially after his earlier messages. It could’ve come straight from the thumb of a bratty prepubescent derp.

Ive just had a liverpool mate message in a whatsapp group "LFC Fans #poch4real" followed up with "loch to real and then you can get Moyes"

my response was just "jesus christ"

He takes the bite on wind ups really easily but his are just useless. Its quite silly

Best way to respond is to agree. "Yeah, you're right mate, he's probably off and I can't knock him for wanting success - good luck to him for the future." Respond every time in a similar vein and you take the wind out of their sales. I used to really annoy a mate by doing that.

That article has morphed into something more positive now, including the latest quotes.
Yeah a fundamental issue all media has is that reporters don't write the headlines so the headline is the juiciest/hottest take on the report. The more generic and manipulative the more attractive to readers.

I think people are being a little naive here. If Madrid really want him right now then they have the power to steam roll Levy and any contracts with or without clauses to get him. It doesn't matter what ITK know or are told even if it's directly from the horse's mouth. It's sad but true that all but 3 or 4 clubs cannot stand up to them.

If he stays it's because he rejects them or because they don't go all out to get him.

Without any pressure I'm sure he'd reject them for now. But again, they have the power and resources to be very persuasive, it's whether they want to flex those muscles...

I genuinely think it would be a bad move for him. He would basically have to win the champions league at least in his first season.

Until they appoint someone else I will be very nervous

He could have just said no...

I think he wants to manage them just not yet.
So he is being honest. They haven't contacted him, he has just signed a new contract. He's happy at spurs.
No burning bridges, no upsetting fans of either club (we know how fans can be drama queens). Done his job.

Yeah, I agree, but I also think he owes us more than the RM fans and personally I think it’s disrespectful to us that he doesn’t say he will 100% be our manager at the start of the season. He could do that without disrespecting RM.

He probably doesn't feel the need to say anything, having just publicly signed a new 5 year contract. Actions speak louder than words...

You don't just dismiss madrid when they haven't even made an offer, if you want to manage them in the future. These are people with huge egos that can be offended by the slightest thing.

Just to show that not all media outlets are out to get Spurs, Sky have decided to run with the headline now of Poch being “so happy with Spurs”.

Until Real turn their attentions elsewhere I will still be a little concerned in the back of my mind, but the press noises will change daily.

It’s all about which bit of an interview is the most juicy to grab a headline.

Think people should chill out. I think he’s going nowhere this summer, but no doubt he’s ambitious and won’t hang around for ever if the move to the new stadium doesn’t signal us acting bigger in the transfer market within the next 2 or 3 seasons. Same will apply to our best players I imagine.

Would be very funny if they went for Klopp and took Salah too, but I can’t see that one.

What a shit show thus summer is going to be for us !

Amazed at some being so relaxed about this.

This is our worst nightmare come true. Just had to happen that Perez has the hots for Poch, he always seems to target Spurs ffs. Modric, Bale, now Poch.

I am really worried. I don't think Poch will go, but I could imagine it easily. If his head gets turned, it's bye bye Poch. Would be a disaster for us.

Not sure how he turns them down.

Everything says he’s presently at Tottenham. We all know in our gut that unless he accomplishes more this upcoming season and doesn’t feel stagnant, anything is possible in the next few seasons. You get the sense that everyone is feeling like a change is needed for their careers with the exception that they love playing for Poch. This is just an unfortunate part of sports and careers.

In my opinion, there arent many managers RM want on the open market. With that in mind, I can see this or PSG as the likely destinations. He is a young manager that will want a career change just like how any of us would in our jobs. The unfortunate part is hes so good at what he does, and not having him be part of the team for 10+ seasons would be a personal disappointment. All of his quotes allude to the present.

With that said, I hope he gets fired after 6 months if he winds up at Madrid to leave him with the “devil you know is better than the devil you don’t” mentality with Flo Perez v Levy. That may be sour grapes, but RM have put it in our pooper more than once.

Klopp said in an interview that he was approached before by utd, but that it was more about the show than football and that he didn't think he'd be comfortable there. Madrid is the ultimate show so can't really see him going.

I'd actually not want him to go. Yes it would hurt liverpool but i like that the best managers are in the prem. want the prem to be the biggest and best league on the planet.

I'm not in the least bit worried.

The Real job is a poisoned chalice taking over from ZZ who has obviously got out at the top. ZZ is a clever guy and he can knows the problems at RM better than anyone. An aging squad with massive egos who frankly only turn up when they want to. Look at their league results this season and it is clear the writing is on the wall.

Poch is great at improving players and uniting the squad but that is a Herculean task at RM and not the way they do things anyway. RM just get the chequebook out. Nothing Poch does is a good fit for that team and he's smart enough to know it. If he wants to manage RM there will be other opportunities (roughly every 2 years ).

I don't think he'd go either but it would be nice if their fans were made to sweat a bit and the media turned their attention to Klopp.
