The Senegal players look massive alongside the Japan players. Looks like men against boys. Actually it is.

I think he’ll play Dier and Henderson together against Belgium. That being the case, I’d play Rose for Young, Rashford for Sterling, Dier for RLC. Dele will prob have to settle for a place on the bench. If he goes with one defensive midfielder then Dele for RLC. Linguard did quite well today, maybe the goal made his performance look a bit better than it was, but I think he’ll keep his place. If he’s rested/dropped, then Dier for him instead.

Dele shouldn't play against Belgium. Just rest him for the knockouts.

I'd go with this:

Pickford
Stones Dier Maguire
Trippier ------Henderson---Delph------- Rose
Lingard
Kane --- Rashford

For everyone criticising the performance. We were 5-0 up at half time without even trying in 30 degree heat.

It is very rare for a team in such a position not to drop their level with the game dead.

I do agree though that we are not good enough defensively and will get exposed by better teams.

That’s the point some of us were making, England found themselves 5-0 up without even having to play well, which they didn’t particularly.

I think this team is bright eyed and bushy tailed, but there are still massive issues with it. There’s virtually no midfield to speak of, even RLC didn’t improve that much, Even in that first half, England weren’t exerting the kind of control you’d expect against such a poor team, their play kind of by-passed midfield a lot.

There’s no one in midfield, especially without Alli, to play incisive passes, and it falls to people like Trippier and occasionally Henderson. Even in that 5-0 first half, I can’t remember a single through ball other than Trippier’s to Lingard for the pen. And this was highlighted again second half, when England failed on several occasions to cut them open on the break because there was no midfielder capable of playing an incisive pass.

I think Kane has pretty much continued his end of season form, he’s scoring goals but not playing well, got caught on the ball a couple of times and wasted a great chance to play Sterling through.

I still have no idea what RLC is? Is he a 6? An 8? Some kind of 10?He’s strong and has good technique but he doesn’t do anything quickly and he holds onto the ball too long at times and tried to dribble to often.

Playing Trippier instead of Walker as the rwb is Southgate’s smartest tactical decision. Young’s contributed fuck all in two very easy games.

I thought he did fairly well today. The centre backs are a cause of concern as their passing and ball control has been quite poor.

Sideways sideways jog sideways backwards walk sideways sideways jog backwards sideways walk

I could do that.
