Martial would be fantastic. Would be nice revenge for Berbatov if they end up being railroaded into selling to us by the player. We've had ITK saying Mourinho is cool with it so Woodward may budge eventually if other options are limited.

It would only be revenge if we signed him and then loaned them Sissoko in return :D.

As it is it will involve selling them Toby, so I don’t think we will be able to say we got one over on them at all...... and they’ll probably use the money to sign Bale :(.

As you can tell I’m feeling nice and positive today.

Still, despite all the above, Martial would be a good signing.

The news does sound positive & I for hope it's justified & I wouldn't be opposed to using Toby to push the Martial deal through, although I'm another who would hope we could stop de Ligt going to Juve.

Herc is saying 'pay the fee', which suggests it might not even include Toby. Smart money suggests the only way it happens is with Toby going there, but they have been linked to other CBs recently too. If Martial wants out, Jose wants him out, Martial wants us and we offer decent cash then maybe, just maybe*...

* Yeah I'm just trying to convince myself too

Yeah I didn’t mean the financials of the two deals are linked, just that I’m sure they wouldn’t consider selling to us if we won’t deal on Toby ( although in reality I personally believe we’ll deal on Toby eventually regardless).

I dont know where all this Toby to Utd stuff is coming from. Neither ITK has suggested that is the case. If Hercs says we'll pay the fee that suggests we're matching the asking price. Not that we're using Toby at all.

Keep Toby, sign Martial, be ambitious.

Does that mean the revealing of the cryptic wasn't because we'd stopped going after him? Dilly dilly

No mate, just no! :poop:

With regards to Martial, this sounds positive - previously it seemed like United were going to stand firm and Martial was unprepared to kick up a fuss. Happy with developments!

My take is Utd's apparent clear reluctance to deal was purely to mirror Levy's valuation of Toby. Yes, I get that Van Dijk went for big money, and the club may see that as the benchmark, but ultimately Toby is older and running down a contract, I wonder how much leverage we really have with the £25m release clause on the horizon. In truth, I agree with the posters above, that budging on Toby's fee will probably see Utd open up to dealing, sounds like fee is not an issue.

Really? Just because they didn’t specifically mention it in the latest piece of info doesn’t mean it isn’t relevant. The same ITK have said as much throughout the summer so far.

Believe what you want to believe though ( although I would like it very much if your version of events came true).

Per previous we know this includes, if not a direct reference to, the biggest team in Italy, one of the historically biggest teams in the world, and most of all: the side that knocked us out of the UCL—and he refuses to discuss further bc he wants us.

BE BRAVE, BRING THIS GUY HOME LEVY

(thanks herc)
Eh, judging by all the info, I think you’ll find there’s not much else Levy can do here. Squarely in United’a hands.

Tbh, it doesnt sound like anything new with martial. He wants us. We want him. United want Italy for him. Really it seems like a waiting game hoping they’ll blink for once. If they are finally becoming amenable to is, great. If not, i just hope we dont wait too long for that to happen.

Thanks for the update @Hercules! Martial would be a revelation at Spurs. Don’t think he has ever been given the freedom he needs at Yanited.

Great point that I hadn't considered — unlike all other transfers, this one is going to involve a team that doesn't want to sell

But I agree with your general sentiment, per Herc's info, obviously the ball is in their court but, don't assume Levy is going to simply pay the fee and quietly escort Martial out of Manchester without toying with ManU during some part of the process.

I don't think its entirely in yaniteds hands. Martial can, and probaly will refuse to go to Italy...His perogative. He could then run down his contract and go for nothing. I don't think yanited would want that.

No, Manu can afford to let him run down his contract if they do not want him to come us. They are not us, they are on a different financial level.

They can afford to but it would be cutting their nose to spite their face

Proffesional businesses just don't do that

Ok apart from the goonies but they are just weird and abnormal

Where was the ITK that we were looking to include Toby in the deal? All I recall was that Toby had burned his bridges even though he actually wants to stay now.

We are now rivals so if they think selling to us would weaken them while making us stronger they would. Letting him run down his contract could therefore be more beneficial to them. So yes, professional business actually do that!
