Over a season for us trippier wasn’t good enough when push came to shove . Fa cup semi final is an example of where he was bullied .

Don’t get me wrong he has had an amazing tournament but club level week in week out is a different ball game . I love him but we were strong with rose and walker either side

I don't really agree that when push came to shove he wasn't good enough for us, there were also high profile games that he played, in which he was fine. Juventus home, Liverpool away, Liverpool at home, United at home, Arsenal at home, Real Madrid at home, Chelsea away, all games that I don't remember him being a problem in. Of course he had a few games where he struggled but I think he was generally good for us last season. Probably does help in this England setup that he plays with the protection of a back 5 and a quick RCB in Walker to support/cover him at times.

I think he's been brilliant the whole tournament. It's worth noting though that it helps that the CB who's covering him is one of the most explosive and powerful in the prem, which isn't something a wing back usually gets.

Sanchez anyone?

Still not 100% convinced about him as our long term first choice full back, but he's had a great tournament and looks perfect for England's system. I guess the fact our system is different and the nature of international football means comparisons are tricky but he looks one of the best players in the whole World Cup.

I imagine we'll stick with what we have, unless we're moving Aurier on already, he's made enough balls-ups directly leading to goals for a whole Spurs career let alone one season.

Are you suggesting that Walker is a better defender in a back three than Sanchez? Laughable if you think so.

You're suggesting that's what I'm suggesting, it's usually better to read the thread and see what the context is. I'm saying having an extremely quick and powerful CB on the inside really frees up Tripper to go forward and play an offensive game. This is because his biggest weakness is handling very pacey and tricky wide forwards. Sanchez is a better CB but Walker's style is more complementary to Trippier's.

The Walker that lost two semi finals, one of them 5-1 and got bullied by Lanzini at West Ham in a game that cost us a title chance?

Yeah, we were so much better

I get what you mean, but surely Sanchez fits into the quick and powerful category o_O

I beg to differ

and with his defending nuance, he is a better player than Walker in that position in my book.

Any back to Trippier. He has gone up in my estimation as I always thought that his only attribute was his crossing. But he has shown in this WC that his defensive prowess including awareness and positioning has improved immensely. I would keep him and use KWP as his 2nd and sell Serge.

Walker is a better player over a whole season . Why didn’t city pay 50 mill for trippier ? Walker and rose > Davies and trippier

he's had a nice tournament but your paucity of passing midfielders is partly responsible. Pretty much everything is coming from the wingbacks and Young is on the other side.
