I kind of do. Sure they may have come back and asked for more $ but that still seems to be the main discussion point.Do people really think the only consideration is the amount we are offering him?
Can we all please chip in
Fair comment - but he'll remain rusty if he doesn't play.Reading a lot about how great he was, personally thought he was still rusty and at fault for a number of utds chances. Made some decent tackles once we were 2 up but still think he's below his best. If he keeps Sanchez out the team it will be very harsh.
Thought he signed a new one last season after himself stalling for a couple of years and worrying us.Doesn’t Vertonghen’s contract end at the end of this season? Isn’t this as much if not more of a worry than Toby?

I can’t find any evidence of it as I thought the same...
In his three seasons here we've had the best defence in the league in two of them, and the only one we didn't was the one where he hardly played.
Last night we remembered why. Immense performance. If he's fit and motivated, he is the best CB in the league.
If there's any chance of him still signing, we should do whatever it takes.
The stat/fact I always think about with Toby is throughout his career the team he has played for has always finished first or second in the league in goals conceded. The one exception is last year we had the third fewest goals conceded, but Toby also missed 4-5 months. I can't remember if this is where I originally saw this, but here's a year old Reddit post as source: link.
Obviously there are caveats with this - coaching, teammates, and play style all matter; plus, I don't think he played much at Atletico, and it might not be out of the ordinary for Ajax to lead the league in fewest goals conceded. Still, it seems remarkable that Southampton had the second fewest goals conceded in his one year there, and that we were joint league leaders in his first two years with us. On the measure that seems most important for a defender (goals conceded), Toby has always been a success. I would love if we could keep him for a few more seasons, but honestly have no idea what to make of his situation.
