You're right there are similarities, but I think they are overdone a bit. Dele is a touch more subtle than Lampard. He likes his flicks, back heels and one-twos around the edge of the box.

That said, I certainly think Dele can do a job in a 3 man midfield. However, if we're going down that route in my view we require someone more progressive than Dier at the base of the 3. Ideally someone who can recycle possession and give the ball quickly to the likes of Eriksen, Dele or anyone else.
I don’t agree or disagree, I think with the extra time and space he’d get at the base Dier would be pretty effective, I think his technique is underrated. That said, it might explain the link to lobotka, with Dier being the Toby replacement...

Yeah makes sense. I like Dier but I feel against the best sides he's vulnerable to the high press. Perhaps his future is at centre back and we'll eventually buy a DM.

Lovotka or Wanyama as a ‘robust’ option with Dier moving to CB would be very good options, and Dier could always move back there when necessary. I actually think Winks is tigerish enough to do it too if needs be. Either way, I think we are about to see a Poch evolution. He’s done 343, 4231 and both have worked well but without flaws. I think he’s realising that 433 can give you the best of both without the draw backs if you have the right players (so not the avb 433 which was really a 451).

But that's a debate for another thread.....

But would make sense to develop the relationship with Fulham with an eye on the future - e.g. first shout on Sess if they go down
Possibly. Not massively convinced that they would be interested in a partnership these days but it would be nice to have first option on Sess for sure.

IF he moves on whats our current crop of centre mids looking like going into the new season?
Wanyama - out til Christmas (apparently?)
Winks - still injured
Onomah - injured?
Sissoko....

That's really it then you're dipping into the academy or have I missed anyone out - seriously concerning if we sell Dembele at this stage of the window given our current situation with injuries.

Or we play a different system...

Eriksen - Dier - Dele/Grealish

Then a front 3x of Son - Kane - Moura/Lamela

When Wanyama, Winks and Onomah to come back into the side.

Fuck this shit. Do not sell amd leave us shorter than we already are. But we all know we will and be left short as per usual.

it seems that we are going to bring him on at 70 min and let him run at opponent's tired legs. probably the best way to utilize him

How we manage Dembele this season could be key.

He has said he cannot handle the physicality of the Prem anymore.

He has shown himself to be a good impact sub whether we are winning and need to slow the game down and hold possession or push for an extra goal.

We know how good he is in the CL.

Can be a real asset if not overused.

felt sorry for him Monday up against Matic/Pogba/Fred. He did as well as you could hope for. I still dont know how we won like we did except United are brittle right now. honestly, when I look at that midfield 3 for United I dont know how Mourinho can whine.

Oddly I felt sorry for Matic/Pogba and Fred there just weren’t enough of them to cope with Dembele

Seems Poch had wrapped him in cotton wool for the Man Utd game. I doubt he will start him against Watford. I reckon we will field the same team as against Fulham.

In the majority of the games he just needs to come on to kill off the game.

The amount of times he had a quick forward pass available, didn't see it, then started dribbling drove me crazy. There was actually a point in the game where Eriksen played him a ball pointed out Lucas coming open and he passed backwards to Sanchez.

Winks needs to start every match Poch deems him fit for and bring on Dembele when we have a lead late in the game. He's just past it.

Yep, me too. He seems to have gone back to the frustrating Dembele of old.
