We’ve won absolutely nothing, our squad is in a huge decline, our owners are doing absolutely nothing to support the manager and stem this decline and you think everything is fine? Wow

What? I don't even...

Are we sure we're supporting the same club? In the same Country? Same Universe?

Did you get lost on the way to KUMB? :(

I wish we hadn't sold Walker. I know he wanted to go, but surely we could have got Sancho.

One key thing that hinders us is not selecting the high value options in certain attacking situations.

Today Kane came in across the edge of the box and tried a shot when Eriksen was free at the top of the box with clear sights at goal... Kane ignored him, was greedy - shock horror - and took the harder option.

This happens every game (Alli, often a repeat offender).

To me it's a big problem as we all know how tight the margins are.

We could have had 3/4/5 extra crucial goals this season, imo, if we were smarter around the box in this regard.
City are so good as this. They always look for someone better placed.

Playing Foyth, a player lacking experience and prone to mistakes, in place of Toby, one of the best defenders in the world was INSANE.
It wasn’t like everyone else played well of course but with Toby emanating calm from the back l/ and playythise passes which gets us behind a defence- we would have given the rest of the team more confidence too.

Agreed.

Whether people accept it or not, we have over achieved in that we have spent far less than the big clubs but are able to compete.

But there is a window of opportunity, while we still have Eriksen, Kane, et al, to build on that foundation and push on. I fear the high point of that window was the Leceister season, where we genuinely could have won the title.

We are nearing the end of that window, now. Our midfield is so poor compared to Wanyama and Dembele in their prime, and our full backs are mid-tier at best. We haven't replaced properly. And we've shown we don't solve more than one problem each summer, if at all.

Like it or not, we are at best standing still when it comes to the squad as a whole. If Eriksen leaves, does anyone really have any confidence in our ability to replace him? Of course not.
Trouble is when like last week we have a cracking win especially over a main rival it gets mentioned that we don't need additions to the squad, but win, lose or draw the team is lacking in certain areas which require investment hopefully in the summer.
It is a disappointing result today especially as the team were shit in the same fixture last year but at the start of the season I said 5th or 6th is where the club would finish without the investment and I still think that is the case, but we have a home game against Southampton mid week so a chance to get back amongst it again.

Imagine trying to sound patronising when your opinion is absolutely ridiculous and completely naive.

I'm not trying to be patronising. I just don't recognise the state of the club you're talking about. You are describing a stagnant CLub in ruins and decline. That was not my experience on Wednesday when I watch Spurs beat Inter Milan.

I'm sorry - I think the Club's doing quite well. Sorry if that upsets your narrative that everything is shit.

I reckon we will finish above them if we strengthen well in Jan. but really, we have played well once this season. And obviously there is something to be said about getting results when you play poorly but really, at what point does one start to worry. I guess if we start loosing more often.

I feel like we have completely lost our identity and are scraping wins on shear willpower and resolve. On the one had that’s encouraging, but I don’t see it taking us the distance. I actually don’t really know what type of football we play anymore, it’s kind of counter, kind of possession, sort of high press but not really. Bits of tikki takka but not really. The only thing I know we do is play out from the back regardless of the opositions tactics and that we often crumble completely against the high press. But that isn’t anything new . As it is, the Chelsea game was an anomaly as far as our game plan goes. Hopefully this will all come together over winter and come Jan we will look our electric selves. I just worry as Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are much stronger then they have been in a while and we can’t afford to let go of the reins.

I’m sure the next two days will be filled with anger and depression, then optimism on wednesday and hopefully all forgotten come Thursday. But the nature of our defeat, not the defeat itself, worry’s me most.

And I guess, on a side not Toby must be as good as gone. Although we all sort of knew this anyway.
Good analysis but we havent played at home for 18 months and are still very competitive, Toby situation must be resolved I concur

You’re taking everything i’ve said and creating really weird conclusions.

Yes, this is the best we’ve been in my life time and yes the squad is full of amazing players (although we looked much, much better in 16/17).

As I’ve said, we won’t reach the levels of Man City if ENIC refuse to finance us correctly. They’re sitting on billions of pounds and we’ve just gone a whole transfer window without spending a single penny, when the squad desperately need refreshing.

Good for you if you will enjoy watching the club battling for top 4 for the foreseeable future with no silverware to boot, but that’s not something I’m going to enjoy.

Get your facts right, we took out LOANS to pay for the stadium.
You just said we are on the decline.
Yet if we won this game it would be our best start of the season in the PL. You’re being ridiculously over the top saying we are on the decline and that is why I disliked your comment. Why don’t you take into account that we just beat Chelsea and Inter on the bounce and maybe we were feeling it.

Won't be a popular viewpoint today but I still back Aurier to come good.

There was a lot going against him today -- the fact that the back line was clearly unsettled from kickoff due to the bizarre team selection, the fact that the midfield in front of him was woefully ill-suited to cope with Arsenal's press, the fact that Arsenal set out to exploit the space left by Poch's positioning of the fullbacks, and last of all his own personal feud with Emery likely making him press a bit.

It's worrying that he coped so miserably poorly with those pressures but today was a collective failure that had the effect of making the fullbacks stand out as looking particularly bad. Aurier has come on by leaps and bounds since having settled a bit this season and under Poch's tutelage has the makings of a very decent fullback. Hopefully we'll eventually look back at this performance as (yet another) blip on the radar during the process of his settling in.
He must learn composure and improve the weighting of his decision making under pressure.

He's the kind of individual that's got a lot of front, but is really insecure and has doubts about himself.

He needs to stop trying to 'prove' and work it the other way by being steady first and then building up.

Not too sure how wide his scope is for improvement, but he's shown when he's dead on his game he is effective for us.

He needs to look to Sissy and learn.

What else can you do with trip injured? He's been playing well up until today so made perfect sense to play him.

Ye I agree but I mean him and foyth in the same team. We all know what aurier is like and can't help they situation but foyth instead of Toby?

Play KWP, because he's good enough and if we aren't going to play our top youth prospects ON TOP of not spending any money, then we're just fucking ourselves over even more.
