Bastard Dyche coached his team to waste time for 90 minutes (*) and get the 0-0 but...

Fuck me Burnley made that hard for us. Great disciplined defensive performance. Probably deserved something but then if the ref gives the penalty whole difference game.

Tell you what though- it don’t half feel fucking amazing to win in injury time

Whatever you think of Burnley's tactics, it nearly worked. Frustrating to watch but it's really our problem if we can't break this sort of opponent down. Did anybody really expect them to do any different? We'll see more of the same from teams in a similar position.

We played Barca mid week the emotional drain was always going to be a factor.

How did skip do?

Skip was ok, he tried to pass forward but burnley often surrounded him with 2 to 3 players to pressure. Good debut I think, he will learn from playing a tough team who are physical. Didn't help that both him & Sissoko were not clear on attack v defense - needs more time to build confidence and more understanding with his own team mates

Drawing games at home or in our case homish is as bad as a defeat. We need to be racking up wins especially against so called smaller clubs but they do make it difficult with 11 men behind the ball and time wasting from kickoff. At least we have the draw for the last 16 in the Champions League on Monday. #COYS

Edit: Egg on my face! I look like a fool now but I honestly thought the game was over ?

Christ guys I'm sorry! We scored while I was writing that

Santa is watching. :cautious:

A few things which need to be learnt/hope from today:

1. Eriksen is probably our 2nd most important player after Kane. There are some in the transfer rumours section who think he can be replaced but I don't think it's going to be so easy. Scored a very late and important goal against Inter and now today. I really hope we find a way to keep him and his dream club aren't interested.

2. When resting players, Poch needs to be careful. It backfired against Arse with Toby and nearly did today. Burnley are one of those teams who are anti football and like defending. I also think Dele struggles against bus parkers and it would've been better to rest him.

3. We need to strengthen in Jan.

4. Burnley were a bit unlucky so hopefully they get lucky next time out. Who are they playing next.... those bloody Goons!

Cliche 3pts is all that matters. Big week now with NLD and arguably our hardest game in next 9, Everton away. Can accept a lethargic performance after Barca but important to now kick on and get as many pts as can in this “easier” period.

Fair point and true. I think we need to develop more guile, learn to draw teams like these onto us and look to hit them on the counter. See how Chelsea beat city - they invited them to attack & suck punched them with the first goal. We haven't quite developed that side of our game as we go all out to impose our philosophy on the opponent. This is how I believe we need to go about beating bus parkers - if they think they will defend all game, let them have the ball to see what they can do so we can open up the game!

So many rose tinted glasses out there. I see that honesty does not prevail here, but who cares. I say it as I see it.

70% possession to 30%, no shots on target for Burnley. Says it all.

And I don't blame Burnley for sitting back at all, but damn it does fucking annoy me.

Very flat performance, which is somewhat understandable, 3 points is all that matters.

I know people have had enough of Wembley, but those that were there needed to lift the team, the atmosphere was terrible and certainly wouldn't have helped.

I agree, it's no good complaining about IT you just have to deal with it and remember that they wouldn't do it if we weren't so good.
On the bright side though any team that does it from now on is going to know how hard it is and how unlikely it is to succeed.

All this time wasting. Boring bastards.

I actually watched the timer when the ball went out for a Burnley GK when they brought on Chris Woods.

It was a total of 62 seconds. I then timed one of our similar scenarios and it was 30 seconds.

Just on my way back from the game. One of the worst time wasting displays I've ever seen. They also played with 11 behind the ball for most of the game making it that much harder to break them down. Hart was time wasting at every opportunity and the ref did fuck all about.

Burnley got what they deserved from the game, which was absolutely nothing.

Don't think he rested anyone, Dier had a virus & Verts a thigh problem. Pretty much down to the bare bones it seems.
