There’s been so many players we could have got.

I mean, we should get liverpool’s Chief scout for one as they just buy quality players for reasonable prices bar the last years prices.

Salah, shaquiri, Gomez, lallana, mane, firmino, etc.

Then elsewhere with Maddison, maguire, pereira, at Leicester.

We have signed Sissoko (playing well of late but technically poor), Aurier, Moura (jury is still out imho), Llorente, Janssen, etc.

We have signed Sanchez, son and Alli in this time too granted.

The point however, is that there are good players out there that we should be targeting but instead we seem to sign 3rd choice players or spend all summer going for a rabiot or Isco which we are never going to get.

Better surely to go for the likes of Leon bailey, Jonathan Tah or Kai Havertz at a struggling Bauer Leverkusen or to have bolstered our squad with Maddison and maguire due to us not having enough home grown?

Now we have eriksen, Dembele, Vertonghen and Toby all running their contracts down too.

Can’t help but think levy has taken his eye off the ball and focused too much on the stadium.

Not sure what happened with Paul Mitchell but surely would have been better to have someone like him focusing on the scouting side for the last couple of seasons?

I’ve not seen Berge play but hopefully this will be a signing in the Alli, firmino, mane, type standard as we need quality reinforcements now.
Even if you think the jury is still out on Moura, there's no way he should be grouped with the likes of Llorente and Janssen. He's on track for a 15 goal season.

I have had real doubts over our ability to scout players outside of the UK for some time now. Realistically, the only players we seem to get any successes from are players coming from Ajax. I would really love us to get a serious DOF who knew what they were doing, as I really think our recruitment strategy is a mess. If there even is one at all. This summer could brake all the good work we have been doing. Loosing Toby and possibly Eriksen on top of our need for two new CMs, a new CF understudy and, really, two new full backs is a hard task for anyone.
Son ? Lloris ? Foyth? Moura ?

Berge looks class to me...however Genk will ask for a respectable fee of something like £15m, Levy will say that is too much, then he ends up signing for Southampton or Leicester, where he becomes a beast in the premier league, valued at 50 million within a year...

I doubt Genk will command an unrealistic fee...get him and Rabiot in, could get the pair for a likely £30m fee (I know Rabiot will have a big sign on etc...) but it fits Levy’s mould..gets poch strength in a key area, and doesn’t break the bank.

Just my opinion, but i’d roll with both of those players...

Foyth for sure could be, Moura was hardly an unknown as were Son and Lloris and they were a good long while ago. Anyone who had even a passing knowledge of world football would have been aware of those three, and who even knows if we still own the same scouts now. I’m talking over recent years. Njie, GKN, Janssen, Aurier, these are hardly success stories. Purely looking at players coming from abroad during the Poch era I wouldn’t say our scouting has been good enough in my opinion.

Hercules in ITK thread saying theres truth in this. Love it, perfect fit for the player to rotate with Dier and has real big potential from what I've seen. Would be very excited.

As a more mobile alternative to Berge, what about Denis Zakaria?

Good replacement for wanyama.

Add Youri Tielemans to replace Dembele and we got a youthful, skilful midfield.

I think Zakaria is more of a box to box player. From everything I've read Tielemans is incredibly overrated.

Agreed, on Berge we need to act fast as we desperately need the options. But we know if he signs it'll be in the last week.

I think Berge ticks almost every box. In terms of age, attributes, development, ceiling. Potential sell on, position.
I agree that Tielemans is another I would look for but Monaco always get a premium for their players and I don’t think we would pay what they would want.

As an aside I think he covers both the CM and DCM and I think would and could play equally wel in a 2 or a 3. For me has good bits of both Dembele and Bog Vic.

This would certainly add to our options in midfield
Dier and Skipp for the sitting passing midfield role
Winks and Berge for the number 8 pivot ballplaying role
Sissoko for the box to box physical athletic role
*maybe if Onomah could bulk up a bit he could become an alternative to Sissoko

Berge and Skipp replacing Dembele and Wanyama could be the way to go
It may not seem like an upgrade but they both have great potential and will add fresh energy
Besides with Winks and Dier we already have a couple of proven first teamers
I see it similar to the centre backs, Sanchez and Foyth coming in young as future long term centre backs

Still need to sell someone first, no point being linked to foreign teams, if Dembele, Vic, Janssen, GKN and Llorente are still around. And there hasn't been any hard links for any of them yet.

Based on latest rumours and ITK, I’d assume Berge is our back up if the Rabiot deal doesn’t happen. If true it’s quite a big step down.

Rabiot would come in now and settle quickly due to his experience and quality, however Berge may need a season or two to adapt before we see his true quality. Right now we need someone ready to hit the ground running and help us take that next step forward.

They’re a bit different. Berge would be a Wanyama replacement and Rabiot a Dembele replacement. We need both but will probably end up with neither.

Interesting. I do however like taking the odd risk rather than a mid table PL side signing the likes of Berge and after a few months their value has tripled. Hopefully we do address CM this window one way or another.

I don’t think there is any guarantee that either would settle straight in and make anywhere near a rapid impact on the first team to be fair. I totally see the rationale in signing these now but not really with more than hope that they could make a first team impact.
