this has to go down as a classic

American_Gooner Not actually American. Unless Di Marzio says so. Moderator

West Ham H
Ajax H
Bournemouth A
Ajax A

Only silver lining possibly is that they could drop points if they rest players for the CL, which they probably will do considering how stretched their squad is

1, Son is suspended for the 1st leg, so won't be rested.
2, we can't rest anyone cause they are all injured

glad the wife forgot to bring the salt up earlier, I've overdosed on Arsemania

Personally, I've always been fairly neutral about the pros and cons of the away goals rule, but, funnily enough, West Ham fans on KUMB have always had really strong ideas about it and not just thought up in the last two hours. Oh no.

"Is it just me or is the away goals rule highly unsatisfactory and, somewhat out of date?"

"Needs scrapping like the golden goal was! A stupid rule to settle a tie!"

"It's one of the daftest rules in football. Tonight's game and many others before that deserved to go to extra time. Goals are goals and none should ever count double."

"Away goals rule should definitely be scrapped. Made sense back in the 50s when travelling away was tough and everyone played for a 0-0 but serves no purpose in the modern game. A goal is a goal and extra time would have been a fitting end to that tie."

"Completely outdated. Not just saying it because it’s Spurs, I’ve thought it for years. The tie was a draw. The home team tonight had to go attacking as they were one down, so it’ll inevitably be a more open game meaning the away side have a better chance of scoring."

I'm not complaining this time round, however some good points made.

Is extra time fairer than away goals? Extra time would be held on the ground of the team playing home for the second leg therefore giving them an advantage. To be fair you would need to play extra time at a neutral venue. So extra time in a cup final or semi at a neutral venue is fair but extra time in a two legged tie is less fair than using the away goals rule which both teams know about at the start.

my thoughts anyway

Just had a quick glance on blue moon

Got to say, fair play to them. By and large, class responses

Reason #1083208520853028 why I want Man City to win the league over Liverpool.

I don't dislike City tbh, they were basically the Northern Spurs for years before ending up winning the lottery.
For the most part, they don't have the same self-entitlement that the likes of Liverpool, United and even goons and Chelsea do.

Also very good point... For once we've got the benefit of doubt. How many times have we had to endure

It seems from reading BlueMoon that around 30% of Citeh fans truly believe UEFA are conspiring against them to stop them winning the CL.

They actually full on believe this.

Truly remarkable.

That's changing though with city. The distortion of wealth is truly ridiculous.

Championship playoffs aside have West Ham ever played a two legged tie?

They've been investigated ruthlessly but UEFA and fined substantially for fair play. They really can't complain because they have been fiddling the book...like other money clubs

Don’t worry spammers, the away goals rule is unlikely to ever be an issue for you.

For the most part there's a lot of decent City fans but as they most likely continue to be successful watch their fanbase become increasingly annoying

We were fucked over with the away goal rule against Chelsea in the league cup, in that this was the first year it didn’t count. Any other year and we’d have been in the final against.... City!

We’ve finally got a bit of luck tonight and I’m over the moon about it. We’d be out if it wasn’t for VAR.
