You are taking it out of context a bit there. I was just referring to Madrid being able to tie deals up quick because no one bigger is going to be interested. The selling clubs can't play the field so to speak.Trix talking about these players being wanted by the top of the food chain may explain the relative "silence" on all of our targets over the last week or so. There was that initial burst of information but then nothing since. Trying to keep it quiet until the deals are done?
Ah got it. Thanks for the clarification. So the players have bought in but the wait is on the selling clubs giving up on the big boys coming to the table, basically. You are taking it out of context a bit there. I would imagine a lot of the negotiations are being hampered by all the various competitions going on at the moment.
Other teams are signing players. And anyone mentioning City or Liverpool needs to understand that they really don’t need as much work as we do. Trix will be right, the next 2/3 weeks will define our window. If nobody is in then it will be the same old shit with one month to go and nobody in for pre-season.I would imagine a lot of the negotiations are being hampered by all the various competitions going on at the moment.
I'm still very optimistic we'll get what we want (well mostly) anyway.
Losing two established top-class European players and replacing them with two potentially top-class European players (as good as they look, neither Ndombele or Lo Celso are PL proven yet), and then adding two youngsters wouldn't really be that great of a window in my onion. If we were to add a very good RB and wide forward then we'd be in business though. I still think Sessegnon will be first through the door, so let's hope we see movement on that very soon. I doubt he needs much persuading, so him being away shouldn't make too much of a difference.Nice. I've accepted that Eriksen and Toby go. With this in mind, frankly, if we ended up with
- a good fee for those two
- CM being sorted with Ndombele and Lo Celso
- Sess x 2
....that would be the best window I can remember
In an ideal world we get a RB and a CB as well, but that would just be greedy. I assume that's broadly what the club is after, so Trix's info is encouraging...I think

Yes. If we've bid £35m for Lo Celso, as the press is suggesting, we clearly have no real intention of signing him, which is very worrying, and suggests that we will be fannying around and missing out as per usual. I'm going to assume that it will be business as usual (or not!) until we actually see a top player holding up the shirt. Sure Trix is right, next 2 weeks crucial.Other teams are signing players. I don't think a 35m initiall bid is a bad one. He looks good but he's had one good season in a top league.Yes. The key is the wages, I’m sure of it. Always has been and always will be. Used to be that the CL clubs had all the money for wages, but now all sorts of clubs are chucking cash around. To me, that’s what so much of this boils down to. Sure, we can make an offer to a club, but if the selling club is losing a prize asset, they’re not just going to take the first offer. They’ll shop them around a bit if they can to drive the price up. Then the agent will do the same thing re: wages. Sounds to me that that’s what @Trix is alluding to. The fact that he’s still confident means we should all be, I think. Thanks, @Trix.
That’s also my interpretation of Danny Rose’s comments too. It’s not the club moving players on because of their age, it’s the players reaching a point where they have one more big deal in them and they want to go and get it. I’m sure agents and other players are forever in their ears about doubling and tripling wages. Even if the players give the club a chance to match it or we leave, we’re just not in the position to do it.
Yep, sounds the same as normal to me. This time Poch though will have to accept B or C on the list if we can’t get our first choices, else we’ll be getting nobody in again and that just won’t do this time round I’m afraid.
