Hopefully we get this lad, Ndombele and Clarke leaving Arsenal a clear run at Titus Bramble to partner Mustafi.

If he’s been talking to us today, surely he can’t be fully set on Arsenal quite yet.

This kid in and loaned back for a year, to replace Toby next summer is the ideal scenario for us at CB. Not sure the financials of that will appeal much to us however.
Well when you consider the other links were Ake and Andersen both over 40m it makes financial sense too.

We know Toby is likely to run his contract down or be off if a decent club shows any interest. This way we can protect all outcomes by having someone ready in waiting but not necessarily required today all for less.

They're only willing to sell him this summer if he's loaned back to them next season. Us paying £30m to do that? Absolutely no chance.

Depends doesn't it, We were willing to pay for De Ligt at a similar age, if Toby is likely to run down his contract and we are able to structure the deal so we don't have to pay the 30 right away or in instalments then it might be a shrewd investment.

Tend to agree here. Surely we have too many pressing issues to be spending 30 mill on a player joining next summer? Despite it making alot of sense with Toby situation.

I can't remember if it was ITK or a news article but there was something that essentially said Pochettino was like yeah the squad really isn't very young anymore and that's a problem. We get this guy, Ndombele, Sessengnon, Clarke, and maybe Aarons plus Skipp, Parrott, Bowden, and others coming through the academy and it's a really shot in the arm of youth to an aging and oft injured squad. I love it.

As the other guy said, we've got more pressing issues this summer (RB & Eriksen competition) and we're pretty strong in the CB position, especially with Toby suggesting he'll stay another season.

Hate to be that guy but I think this is 1 of 2 things either St Etienne trying to get Arsenal to pay more or it's Arsenal trying to make out they beat us to his signing

Crazy right, almost like 18 months of no purchases will age a squad.

But really yeah we did get old pretty fast. Especially across the back.

Or 3 - it could be genuine.

But I think you’re 1 and 2 are more likely

With the stadium coming through and the CL money, we may be able to make a Ndombele sized splash signing every so often but ultimately we're never going to be able to do it consistently like City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, PSG, Liverpool, and United. We still have to buy young and prudently. If our scouting department identifies a young player who they think can triple his fee going forward, we have to buy regardless of positional need. That has to be our model if we want to compete with the giants.

I agree with that but football finances don't work like that, We are a rich club and yes we will have a budget for players this season but if they see an investment for the future that will save them money there's a possibility they'll use a different pot for this transfer especially if they can do it in instalments. It's unlikely but it's possible.

Is it not usually the case with these transfers to pay a portion of the fee now and the rest when the loan back ends?

Anyone with more knowledge of how transfers work know about that?

Centre half is one place we do have young players though. Davi and Foyth are both pretty young.
