Take out the last two seasons and it's a completely different picture though. Everyone agrees that we are on the up.

so that lot down the road have scored over 200 more than us over the years eh? No surprise really. Lots for JR to ponder.

I'm surprised that Arse have scored so many considering for so many years they played a defensive style game.

It's not just Premiership history. Defence has always been a bit of an afterthought as far as we're concerned.

the headline is unsurprisingly completely wrong, I did a quick bit of anaylsing goals conceded per game and my maths made Charlton & West Ham's worse. I didn't even bother checking teams like Sunderland's because the conclusion is so wrong it wasn't even worth refuting in depth-

the fact that we are one of the few ever presents in the Prem naturally means we'll concede more goals than teams who can't keep in it for more than a season or two

Doubtless Barnsley have conceded less Prem goals than Man U - so let's have a headline - 'It's official Man U's defence is worse than Barnsley's' - maths illiteracy at its journo height

It is based on longevity. We didn't get relegated etc etc which is amazing seeing how many goals we shipped since the Prem started.

So we were ever present giving us the opportunity to ship more goals.

THANK YOU KLINSMANN!!!

We're conceding on average less than 52 goals per season. I doubt many sides have gone down conceding less than that. I'd be happy conceding 52 goals this season, we'd be almost halfway there.

Hi Gibbs :) As RMY correctly pointed out that's just what I said :) - hence the headline is incorrect and the journo maths is illiterate.

AS I said from the table of goals conceded in the Prem the headline could just as well read - Official - Man U's defence is worse than Barnsley's (or any other team that have concede less than Man U simply because they've been in the Prem for a season or two)

Alternatively, you could re-spin this to say we're the 6th-7th best club in Premiership history.

yep 57 - in fact I think we're 7th/8th going on prem points as I think Toon though having one season less than us have more points than us.

I remember some blackburn fan a few years back claiming they had a better prem record than us cos they had more points per season than us when they were in it - but if they're not good enough to keep in the prem that's their problem not ours

we could pick up all sorts of cheap points in the Championship - improve our goal difference there etc - but it ain't the top flight is it-

It is fascinating though. Perhaps we should just buy nothing but top draw defenders since this season I think only one other team is outscoring us in the Prem.
