I think there needs to be an acceptance that Tanganga will be back up right back otherwise everyone will feel like we’ve been left short in that position.
If Jose continues with a lop sided approach then it works fine. Tanganga has shown more than capable and it gives him more potential game time. I think the Castagne link makes the most sense, he can play attacking right back with Davies left or attacking left back with Tanganga right.
To repeat others I really don’t think he wants to have to keep players happy by tinkering with team, in this way Tanganga and Sess can play Europa and they’d be more than happy with that. Only defenders he’d need to keep happy would be Sanchez and Dier who’d likely rotate a little. Maybe we’ll sign Kim but wouldn’t surprise me if end up with:
LB - Davies, Castagne, Sessegnon
RB - Castagne, Tanganga
CB - Alderweireld, Sanchez, Dier, Tanganga
He’s mentioned injuries a lot, I don’t see him wanting a squad with 2 players every position I think he just wants better luck injury wise with a concise squad.
Zlatan?I think it’s too good to be true. But if he is going to Milan I’d like to swap him for one of their decent players.
Zlatan?
Who would you fancy? They finished 6th this season and way off CL qualificaiton in terms of points, so I'm assuming most of their starting XI would be inferior to ours.
If AS Monaco is a suitor what abou tAurier plus cash forBenoit Badiashile
Utd have been linked to him recentlyWe’ve been linked with the young centre back for a while but Monaco want a premium for him.
I think the lopsided full back plan was short term and devised to get the most out of an unbalanced squad. Next season I expect our back 4 to play more symmetrically, as they did the last 5 or 6 games of the season. I also expect Tanganga to be at least first choice backup for both FB roles next season. Aurier makes too many mistakes that result in goals and/or penalties. Even in our good defensive run post lockdown his mistakes cost two goals (Arsenal and Newcastle). Getting a reliable defender who is consistent is paramount if Jose wants to continue to play a low block / counter attacking style.
Mourinho has always like to play with lop sided full backs as you call and it usually involves the left back not attacking. He's done it wherever he's gone and often goes with a right-footer or a natural centre back CB. At Chelsea he did it with Gallas and Azpiliqueta, Inter with Zanetti & Chivu and a Man United Ashley Young & Darmian.
I have watched a lot of Mourinho football the last 16 years and I have never seen him play such asymmetrical FBs as he did with us from Nov - lockdown, with us effectively playing 3 at the back and having Aurier as a RW to make the following front 5 - Son LW, Dele inside Left, Kane CF, Moura inside right, Aurier RW. At Chelsea Gallas and Azpiliqueta were from different eras (Gallas in his first reign, Azpiliqueta in his second). At Inter the back 4 stayed pretty flat throughout in a low block. At Madrid Marcelo was a very attacking LB, but he has been all his career. At Man U, his back 4 remained as pretty much a conventional back 4, with FBs that would join attacks when needed.
Maldini confirming Milan are in for him ?
if he goes then I expect KWP will fill the spot, club will not spend money
how many times have we been here beforeif he goes then I expect KWP will fill the spot, club will not spend money
Ivanovic an attacking rb lol what have you been smoking?Mourinho played lopsided formation with both inter milan and chelsea (second time) ... Ivanovic and maicon attacking right back and zanetti/azpi defensive left back
