Couldn't see a thread for him so I created one.

I thought this would be as good a place as any to link this article that I thought was very good and highlights the issues young goalkeepers have and the emergency loan rules.

It really is a disgrace that clubs are allowed to exploit this rule despite having adequate and contracted players on their books. It's why you now end up with goalkeepers not having played any minutes well into their late twenties. This is my fear for Austin and Whiteman

Yeah that’s a rule that needs to be changed. In fact I’d go as far as to say that if you have at least one goalkeeper aged over 17 on your books then there’s no need for an emergency loan. It’s just tough luck if there’s an injury crisis.

Exactly. I don't understand the logic behind setting a premier league squad registration and give extra slots to non-senior players and then allow clubs to loan any player let alone a goalkeeper when there are younger players who would look at that as their opportunity.

Both Austin an Whiteman have a fair few games under their belts outside of English football. I don’t know if this would prevent them from being used as fake no. 2s.

incidentally, I know Alfie signed a new contract, any news on Brandon?

It is such a hard position and even tougher to gain experience at any level, I know a former polish u21 keeper, struggling to find clubs at step 4, he’s brilliant too.

I'm not sure why the emergency loan is even allowed.
You decide your squad, register it and that should be it. If you're without then you turn to your reseves and youth

Like when arse got the game called off because they had one player out with covid a few injured and out on loan. One excuse was that they couldn’t field any youngsters in case it upset them if they were crap.

Its the biggest load of bollocks.
Everyone complains that Premier League clubs don't give enough chances to their youth prospects and that the league is being flooded by cheaper overseas imports when young players could do the same thing. But when a club has an opportunity for youth prospects to step up and potentially make the mark the league allows said club to loan emergency players or postpone/move the game so they can get their first team players back from injury.
