My point about Crouch was that he is proven, where as Bent isn't. It's not Bent's fault either, and I do believe that he would play very well in the lone striker role, as he has done in the premiership previously.

I personally believe Backham should play and we should do a 4-4-2 as normal, but I like this formation but opting for speed and skill in the support players for the lone striker.

If it was me, I would have chosen the following..

Robbo
Richards
Campbell
Lescott
Bridge
Beckham
Gerrard
Hargreaves
Cole
Defoe
Crouch

But, in opting for the lone striker, he has provided it with quick, skillful attacking players in SWP and Cole. Doing what Mourinho used to opt at Chelsea.

Robinson doesn't have form! He's just a notverygood 'keeper. All this bullshit about the airkick knocking his confidence... it's bullshit. It's merely opened people's eyes to exactly how bad he is. But ignoring that, he was apparently rubbish in training, so you know...

Robbo, pre-World Cup, was a very good keeper. He was one of best players in the World Cup qualifying campaign. Robbo post-World Cup like you said is a "notverygood" keeper.

But i agree with Flatter what's the point in dropping Robbo in the final game of the qualifying campaign when you've stuck by him all this time. If you were to drop him you have to do it before. Nevertheless Mclaren is an igiot.

An interseting stat about Crouch is that he has only ever scored against teams outside the top 20. Looks as though are once England packed squad of Spurs players is no longer. The fact that Alan Smith is in the squad as a midfielder really sums McClown up IMO

I just have no idea how McClaren makes his decisions.
Logic clearly isn't used.
I mean he brings on Dyer and Smith up front instead of Defoe.

For all of Defoe's faults, the boy can score goals, in a blink of an eye, where as Smith and Dyer don't score many at all.

Beats me, McClaren should be sacked regardless, and we should pay through the roof to sign Mourinho just for the tournament!!!

As Shanks has said, it's not really your bog standard 4-5-1. SWP, Lumpard, Gerrard and Cole all play very advanced on their day. Add Richards into the frame, and it's actually quite an attacking team... presuming Crouchy can hold up the ball and we don't negate our midfield everytime by hoofing it the whole match.

I'm slightly worried about accomodating Lumps, and Gerrard (and now Barry) in the same MF... it's never worked in the past, but surely it has to come good at some point?

I'm really worried about Lescott. I would much rather see Richards at CB and either P. Neville or Wes Brown in at RB.

Finger's crossed.

Finger's crossed.

That's one of the main positives of having Hoofy McHooferson of Hoofersville (aka Paul Robinson) out of the team

Maybe Carson will roll it out  or is that too much to hope for?

I just dont see how when we are conceeding goals Macca stuck with Robbo, we have now tightened up and he has been dropped.

I don't care about the result tonight, I wont be supporting this England side in the Euros.

I can understand Robbo being dropped at the lowest point of his form, but it is clear that he is getting back to his former self and gaining confidence (which the lack of was mainly responsible for his bad performances). It's a clear sign that McLaren lacks any judgemental or observational skills if he makes this decision now, rather then earlier.

Sadly I can see England putting in a sub-par defensive and underwhelming performance (like many of McLaren's teams) and we'll suffer for it.

Trust McLaren to fuck up things when they're given to him on a plate.

Robbo not even on the bench tonight???

Source BBC Sport

Paul Robinson will play no part in England's vital Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia on Wednesday after being dropped by coach Steve McClaren.

BBC Sport understands that Aston Villa's Scott Carson will play instead of the Spurs goalkeeper, with David James on the Wembley bench.

WTF?!!? Very worried by this, has Robbo had a row about being benched so now dropped completley. I really hope someone from spurs is on the phone to him to keep his chin up, we can't have him being totally destroyed by this (which is how he must be feeling at this moment in time!)

If he doesn't take this low point with the professionalism that is demanded of him right now and use it as a starting point to get his shit together, then he will also find himself out of the limelightat WHL.

I think it's bang out of order of McClown to drop him completely. Will really hurt his confidence. Not sure what the alleged problems were in training but doesn't warrant this.

Hope SuperRamMan can sort his confidence out before Sunday...

I'd disagree. I think it will give him the kick up the ass that he needs to up his game. He's been the undisputed number one for over 4 years.....

Don't get me wrong I want him to win his no1 badge back ASAP!
