Bale was ripped under AVB with us, so not sure he copied Ronaldo.

Why not? He didn't have to be playing at the same club as Ronaldo to see him as someone who he wished to model his game on. I'm sure Ronaldo was someone Bale would have looked up to whilst he was still at Tottenham, maybe especially whilst he was still at Tottenham. Of course it's speculation to what extent Ronaldo's style and physique had on Bale's development both pre- and post RM.

Doesn't look ready to start from what I saw last night.

Why is SB out?

Whilst I'd rather see Bale start than Moura I'm, I'd rather see Dele in there as a preference.

Form is temporary

Class is permanent

He's shown glimpses of his class. Once he is fully able to trust his body you'll see a totally different player. He will win us a lot of points this season. He's already won us 2 points with the winner against Brighton. There will be plenty more to come!

Bringing Bale on against a tired Chelsea defense might be the difference maker for us Sunday. If Stevie can’t start (not sure why just see others mentioning it) I’d like to see Dele start just because he seems to step up against Chelsea. Then let Bale come on for 30 minutes and run over them.

I think he's a Liability, doesn't have the work rate we need and also doesn't have the ability going forwards any more. Moura is better and I don't rate him. So disspaointing

He may once have been a Saint, but I see you lack their patience

I think some people didn’t realise the player we were getting, and instead were reflecting on the player who left us.

He’s not fully fit yet, agreed, but he’s also nowhere near that Bale we remember.

That absolutely does not mean he can’t play a crucial role in our season though. He can make a vital contribution and I hope when he’s fitter he can get into positions where he can make a yard for himself on the edge of the box as his finishing is still top drawer.

Bale is currently a little bit of a luxury player. But bit by bit you can see his fitness coming back and with it his own confidence in his body. Against Chelsea away (as with Man C last week) we need WFs who will really put a shift in, lots of intense sprints defensively and to turn the ball over, as well as to make counter attacks devastating. He’s not quite there yet. Second half of he season though I think he’ll be firing on all cylinders. In the big games I see him as a super sub at the moment, and his touch and balance look really good, just waiting for him to know he can sprint flat out without breaking down.

Does that mean he can play til he’s 60?

Sorry to be flippant, just one of the many cliches that gets me! Agree with the thrust of your post.

Same as last week for me, with Son on the right where Chilwell won’t bully him like James - Stevie or Moura for the left.

I thought there were more signs of GB getting his physical edge back against the Bulgarians, and I reckon we’ll see him starting in the Prem in December

Having a player like Bale not at their best can be a real asset.

He still clearly has quality but at the same time will be a more willing sub than someone at their peak.

With Vinicius settlign in well we have another quality option from the bench.

I don't think he's been that great. He's done the basics very well but he doesn't do enough for the team to start the big games...yet.

Clearly is a quality player but I'm underwhelmed. Thought he would be fitter by now

It's taken him longer get fit than I expected. Clearly the lack of playing time had taken its toll. And would have been handy having him at peak for this run of games.

But look on the bright side. We are top of the league (and should be 4 points higher) without him starting regularly. We have 35+ games left this season, particularly at the 'business' end for when he is 100% and we need to rotate

You know what, I reckon he'd fucking love a game against Chelsea. It's just what he needs to kick him into gear.
