We've got footballing-brain dead defenders. No coach can change that. Look at their first goal and the defending decisions that were on par with Ratners marketing strategy, for self implosion. What were they thinking? Well, I use the word 'thinking' in an oxymoronic fashion. Was it 'hey, we are winning, let's try and Barcelona it out the back and...oh... fuck'?

Thet play attacking football and voila we get a West ham / Everton. We sit back and lose by a goal. Usually to aforementioned defensive errors, catastrophic individual errors that belong on 'footballing gaffs' youtube clips.

I got a few texts this morning from a few fellow tortured and hardened souls, who lived through the 90s, happy that the team, I quote 'played well'. Well, it depends on your point of view. I like the defensive side of the game and that did not tick my box for playing well. Was it exciting,? Yes, but it was.also embarrassingly wank. City will be warming up their b team and saying, relax boys, it's tottenham.

apart from that, it was great.

The team needs a CB defensive overhaul, the rest is fine barring the bargain basement players Jose.has for.the AMR position. 2 top class CB and the team is transformed. My opinion, of course.

Missed Everton’s fifth but judging by the reactions on the Spurs Instagram account it seeks Winks at have been at fault?

Dont use it as an excuse to pan him though as Hojbjerg was at fault for other goals and again Lloris doesnt cover himself in glory. Winks was well of the pace but if others are going to excuse Vicinius and Bale due to lack of game time then Winks is the same for me.

Well at least it wasnt boring.
My thoughts for what they're worth.
I die a little everytime I see Sanchez name on the team sheet. He is a liability and if he starts there is very little chance of a clean sheet meaning we have to score at least 2 goals to win.
I haven't been a fan of winks for a long time. Another liability. Very poor decision from Jose to put him on.
Poor substitutions all round from Jose imo and it cost us the game.
What this showed me is we can play good attacking football but we look a total mess at the back, clueless. Jose coaches the defence. Jose picks the defence and Jose keeps changing it every single match, also not the best idea.
Jose should know how much of a bad idea replacing Ndombele, Lamela and Bergwijn with Alli, Sissoko and Winks is. That is a massive step down and in a game where you are already leaking goals, probably not a good idea.
So while some say this was not on Jose I politely disagree. He's the coach so if we look a total cluster fk in defence, which we do even when we park the bus btw so this notion that it was playing attacking football that cost us the game is frankly laughable (we've been leaking goals), and make poor substitutions then he has ro accept some responsibility for that. The more I think about the 11 that finished that game the more I'm not surprised we lost.
Sanchez, Winks,Alli and Sissoko are done imo.

What choices does he have then when its extra time, they are tireing and we have a game at the weekend?

Why not - Hojbjerg has been great for us this season game in game out also I am reading the pen was a fraud.
Winks continues to do nothing

Not a rule, just pointing out if you want to criticise players for that defeat then there's a few more obvious candidates than the guy that came on for extra time after we had already shipped 4 ridiculously stupid goals.

I'm still not sure why you're getting involved. I made the point immediately after extra time that the drop off in quality between Ndombele and Winks (during extra time) had been extremely evident and that Winks had been very poor/fucking awful. Disagree with that if you want but not sure why you need to bring other players into it.

If I had been blaming Winks alone for the overall result I could understand your point. As you said, other players made very poor individual errors that also cost us.

HArry winks idiot for giving the ball away for their 5th goal
True, but it's not his fault he's not good enough. Jose needs to be backed in the summer and levy needs to shift the dead wood. Big summer coming up. Hopefully covid hasn't ruined our chances of achieving both these things in the summer window.

Ill put it simply. There is a difference between "fault" and responsibility/accountability. If Jose is neither of the latter then Im unclear what purpose he serves. If despite him being the best manager in history blah blah, we are "still shit cos the players are shit" then to pay him £15m is incredibly stupid.

You're effectively saying he has no influence on these set of players, so why bother keep him?

I mean no one has said that but carry on...

If we didn't already know the team is a bit of a mess it's going to take quite a while plus a fair amount of money to sort out.
I'm just sick of it now the team is going nowhere expect out of the top four and possibly top six.
What we witnessed last night was comedy defending pure and simple, yet again the club is the centre of embarrassment across the country.

I assume it is possible for a player to make an error, even a really bad one, without it leading to a goal on every single bloody occasion.

Can we not get away with anything? Players from other clubs seem to lose possession in dangerous positions, lose their man etc etc without it always, every time leading to the opposition scoring......but not us

angry at the players for shitting the bed (once again!!), but also the universe for ensuring maximum punishment with no mercy.

I’ve been very critical of Mourinho over the last few weeks, but not last night. The team, the formation, intensity and energy were all good. He cannot legislate for these f**k ups. The only thing i might criticise him for is bringing on Winks, but hindsight is 20/20

Strange isn't it that most clubs have at least 2 players that are great at free kicks just outside the area and we don't have any. That's where we miss Ericksen. Harry is great at most things but free kicks isn't one of them. Still it was a great game best I've enjoyed for some months just sad about the result. League cup here we come.

Surprised by the negativity on here. Yes we lost but performance wise I actually think it was our best in a long time.

We had a stupid 5 - 10 minutes in the first half conceding 3 goals. But our passing was crisp and attacking. We created a bucket load of chances. Had great threatening corners. And it was an exciting game.

If we play like that for the rest of the season we will win a lot more than we lose. A couple of mistakes by Hojbjerg, Lloris and Winks was our undoing.

I'd rather lose playing like that than watch some of the dross we have watched in the last few months.
I would rather win 1-0 than lose 5-4 no excitement in losing.

Depends though - would you rather they start against City? That was the gamble.

It would have been nice to win tonight, but I think Jose's no fool and he already has a domestic cup final. An FA Cup QF isn't going to save him - he'll need to be aiming for top 4 for that.
I felt Jose wanted to win this and had an eye on City. Kane exception, the team was strong and looked good, Im criticising the changes he made. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, Alli and Winks set the team back. Their is poor depth of choice for Jose but Winks confidence is shot and Alli is just not fit. He did have other players on the bench that could have slotted in to cover. I wanted to see a strong side in both games and win both games. Now, no cup and a prospect of dropping further behind in the PL.

Actually the opposite. I don't think he'd scored one for a good 2 years by the time he left.
