Again. I really hope it not only doesn't happen but it loses these clubs the whole strongman card they've been playing that was based on implicit threat. That threat is spent now.

Either they carry on with this ESL because of sunk costs or they stand down and accept a far weaker position than the status quo they just upended.
Thats what I would like to see, this fall through and the new proposal for CL. Clubs have to have the dream of qualification. Its what its all about.

This is some really depressing shit.
I really hope that Uefa, Fifa and the government dont give in.
Hope we, the fans, can turn our backs to this. No fans, no money.
Hope the players turns their backs to this.

I think they're gonna push ahead with the aim of having a slow start but it eventually winning over subscribers with cheap admissions and subscriptions for a short period of time and increasing the prices as subscriber count increases. That is the way most entertainment is going, essentially using the Netflix model with football.

They couldn't give a shit if me or you are involved in it or not and I don't think they care about the bad rep it's gonna get, it's clearly a project they all really believe in. They're taking our club and whoring it out for cash, so Daniel Levy and co can give themselves bigger bonuses. It's a worse version of what happened with Wimbledon to MK Dons.

Wiping their arse with everything Bill Nicholson stood for, they might aswell go down and dig up his grave.

All the indignation from Sky is merely about protecting their investment and profits.

Everyone is at it. Same with UEFA, corrupt as hell, they earn billions from the top 6 clubs and all. The pandemic has made these clubs realise actually their revenue streams are really precarious and they've had enough. They want to be in control of their own commercials.
But this doesn't address the uncompetitive nature of the proposals. If you're unhappy with the current system then invent something better, not worse.

Neville carragher making good points but they keep saying clubs talking about leaving their leagues and deserting their own which is complete lies. Why are they keep saying this?

I agree with the post you replied to and to this one. If the clubs want to cut out the middlemen in the sport and capture all of the value that the clubs themselves create without allowing others to siphon off some of that value, fine, but they should do so in a manner that respects the principles of the game.

I don't agree with how this new Super League has been set up at all, its dirty AF, but this is utter BS from Micah Richards - City are where they are thanks to financial doping.

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards told BBC Radio 5 Live said despite holding a position as an ambassador at the club "the first word that came to me was disgrace".

"From where Manchester City have come from, from Division Two [what is now League One] all the way to the Premier League and they earned that the right way through hard work, great support and not doing things the easy way and went all the way to winning the Premier League"

Matt Law of the telegraph was tweeting on the same lines, suggesting Chelsea and City broke up the premier league cartel and was good for the game.

Totally oblivious of how they achieved their success.

It makes it a lot less accessible to the local Spurs fans, but a whole lot more accessible to the fans of the "brand" which I guess is part of the reason for the move.
As a Spurs fan that is Devon born and bread I feel sorry for fans that are from Tottenham or that attend the games regularly.

How does it make it any more accessible? If you only watch the games on TV then they're still equally as accessible as they always were, you pay for the subscription and there you go. Of all the random arguments you could make for this, this seems like an odd one.

Tear up the whole damn nasty corrupt system and start again. A whole new infrastructure with equitable funding policies and officials who aren't corrupt or racist who can be held accountable for their actions. Less money for individuals and more money for social policies and welfare for ex footballers. Complete and absolute pie-in-the-sky, but how I wish we could reboot the whole sorry system.

I think we all know why Spurs were invited to the table now....... EUFA and the new super League are now in a game of who blinks first......it's Levy time.

How impossible would it for a new law to be passed where every football club is, like in Germany, owned 51% by the fans?

Like many they're allowing emotions to get in the way, they're not thinking straight.

They need to take a step back.

I would watch the fuck out of that show.
Whereas I have clearly set out my principled position against it in this thread, and I want to take a moment to call out @Dougal and shame him for participating in this literal farce. #SayNoToTheSSL

Klopps response has been disappointing. As long as him and his players continue to play and not speak about it they are protecting the owners in all of this.

Does anyone know who the other 8 places in the SL would be given to?

If they were given to the highest placed team who are not a founding member from the EPL, La Liga and Serie A and the top 2 teams from each of the Bundesliga and Ligue 1. Plus the winner of a playoff between the Champions of the Dutch and Portuguese leagues. Would that go some way to addressing the issues many have with the competitive nature of the proposal?
