He seems likeable, the value of which can't be underestimated after 18 months of Mourinho. Even his brief interview hints at some of the topics covered in The Athletic's recent article about him - essentially that he values the contributions of all of the staff and believes they are essential to creating the right conditions for success.

He talks a good game, so let's just hope that he can get us playing football that we'll all enjoy watching.

There was no plan here and it’s been a completely scattergun and pretty farcical at time’s managerial hunt but I’m glad it’s just done now and we can move onto the recruitment side of things.

Wouldn’t have been my choice at all but he seems a nice guy and I liked his interview. I’m hoping he’s a Jol in sense that we as fans can get behind him because we like him as a person. Forget Levy, enic and all that here’s a manager who is being given a chance that he’s going to put everything into succeeding at. If he succeeds we benefit so I’ll be cheering him on when allowed back in the stadium.
If he gets the team working their bollocks off and attacking like he did at Valencia and first year at Wolves then he’s got a chance here. Good luck Nuno.

Nuno Espírito Santo ?
Why does it sound like a priestly blessing at the end of a Latin Mass? Must be my Catholic upbringing but his name reminds of incense and gothic churches? Am I overthinking this or has the 4000 page 'Next Manager' thread finally sent me over the edge?

Espirito Santo translates to holy Spirit

Mendes is the devil, but an independently wealthy, established manager who could change agents and go his own way but continues to deal with the devil instead, is a nice guy?

I can't help but see him as a weak pawn. Do we really think if he is fed a player he's going to say no? When that player is later put up for sale because Mendes can clear another few mil you think Nuno is going to fight to try to keep him? You think he will threaten to resign?

That interview was coached and scripted, he's a puppet, yeah he has a nice face, but wtf

He's the manager of my club now and I'll support the club as an entity as I have no option, but something stinks about all this in imo.

Up until now the wishes of the fanbase and Enic have been somewhat aligned, new training facilities, new stadium as a way of trying to generate money we couldn't just magic out of fresh air. but i think now they have diverged.

We came tantalizingly close to making that way work even before that side of things was even finished but we blew it. Chances like that just don't often repeat themselves.

Levy's raison d'etre now is to protect his 2bil evaluation of the club and his cut of that which is what? In the region of 600mil+ is his sole concern now and that doesn't include running ANY risk of actually challenging if it in any way potentially affects his valuation or cut by risking a single penny more than he has to.

Taking a step outside the romanticism of football we all probably suffer from it's hard to objectively blame him. 600mil secures your family for ever, world wars, societal collapse and so on.

Would you twist or stick with 600mil on the line? I probably wouldn't twist if I am honest, I love Spurs but I love my family more. I expect us to focus more on the cups at the expense of playing our strongest team in the league where necessary.

The thought of Paratici and Mendes getting their hands on any of the Kane transfer fee if and when he goes makes me feel physically sick.

The 2 year contract makes me happy-ish, as i still hold out hope this is a temporary fix until we get back Poch, but i now feel that's a pipe dream, Levy has already "sold" the club, he just doesn't have an actual buyer yet. When he does he will let them run the risks.

Just such a flat flat ending to the last 7 years.

Unless the ins and outs this summer are absolutely shocking I see top 4 as not too much of a stretch, a bit more courage last season and we would have got it then despite the awfulness of some aspects of the squad.

Eff Levy but COYS.

So are we allowed to be positive about this?

Because in terms of man management and coaching, I think he'll do well. He obviously comes across as a genuine, humble, nice fella. After having Mourinho I'm sure the players will love someone similar to Poch who can generate that emotional connection where you will work your ass off for them. Not because you're told to, but because you want to.

I don't have any expectations for the season, so maybe that's a good thing. We'll see how this squad "overhaul" goes and what happens from here.

Well if this was the Premier league of personality, then we've got our man, but let's not kid ourselves here - I don't want to like him cause he's fucking nice, I want to like him because he can do the job, I want to like him because Levy has told us that we're re-focusing on our lost DNA (like he really cares what that even is anyway) & ambition, so if NES fits that criteria and he isn't just another JM clone, then great, but I'm getting lost in my own sarcasm, as I honestly don't believe that he truly is the man that Teflon was alluding to when he spouted all that stuff, was he?

I am pretty sure player acquisitions and sales are Paratici’s realm now. Nuno will have a limited say on transfers.

Anyone wno suggests he cant do the job is wrong. He showed at Wolves he knows his stuff. If he can make the transition to a bigger club, he will be exceptional. Anyone appointed is a risk, Nuno is a risk worth taking.

Mendes has looked after him since he started out as a manager. Got him some good roles and supplied him with a lot of ammo to succeed at Wolves. Why would he be anything but loyal to the guy?

Wolves managed to keep most of their stars despite interest from big clubs for Jimenez and Neves especially. When Jota went it was for decent money and in Neto and Podence it seems he was given decent players to replace him. Fabio Silva hasn't been great but is still very young.

The issue here is that he probably needs to be more picky here with what Mendes offers (at Wolves most were probably obvious signings). Guess we'll see how things pan out on that front this summer.

Very interested to see how the midfield shapes up. At Wolves the pivot was regularly Moutinho and Neves, so be clearly values ability to use the ball above physicality.

Lido Shuffle by Boz Scaggs

Nuno, whoa-oh-oh-oh
Spurs got no money, Levy's gotta go
Mendes' waitin' for the go
Nuno, whoa-oh-oh-oh
'Tici said one more boss ought to get it
Levy's last shot 'fore we quit it
One more for the road

Its overly harsh but I couldn't resist.

This is such an underwhelming appointment. Thankfully to take our minds off it, England will still be in the Euros for 7-10 more days... :woot:

Im very excited about this appointment. I really believe (after reading uo on him) he could be very good for us. He seems to get a good first season response from each club he goes to. Hopefully with us theres some longevity.

Fact :2002 Jose brought him back to Porto for 3M. So he was coached by Jose, not sure how important this may be?
