Also hearing we still want another CB, along with the Japanese kid. Told we won’t be spending silly figures like 40-50m on anyone. Loads of loan obligation offers coming on the market. Selling clubs want ‘cash upfront’ due to the climate. Quite a few irons in the fire. JV (Southampton 28 year old) is not one of them. Few solid inquiries for Sanchez. But hearing not cast iron to go, as NES been watching him in Copa…

Apparently it could go either way. But Sanchez only wants to take a week off (isolation) and start pre-season.

Thanks Herc, but just wondering did you actually write this? It actually makes sense all the way through

Cheers for the info as always
Sanchez is showing real application if he returns so soon. This is a credit to him on a level that others could/should take into account. yes their bodies might need a rest- but if they are so professional then they should keep in great shape for their returns.
I not plussed about the Southampton defender- I just don't see him as a step in the right direction

If we sign Pjanic, then we won’t be signing another midfielder. Been talking to Barca since last week

Cheers Herc. We need more than one central midfielder though, unless the club aren’t going to be getting rid of both winks and sissoko (who both need to go).

The continual downgrade of the RB position is completely baffling to me. We were at our best when we had Kyle Walker who was one of the best RB's in the league. Granted we had no choice to sell but we took a punt on Aurier which didn't work out. At best he is a level below Walker, at worst (which is more frequent) he is a level below that too. Then our back up RB Trippier came to the front before promptly being sold too (also not saying its the wrong decision) at which point we decided Aurier was good enough (again) despite not being good enough before. As it happened a youth CB actually looked better at RB more often.

We then took another cheap punt (an even cheaper punt that the Aurier one which as we have established didn't work) and brought in Doherty who is even worse and led us back to starting Aurier again (3rd times the charm right guys!)

Now we have realised they are both crap we are deciding to see what's in the youth squads despite having previously sold our best youth RB in KWP? And we pretend we are a team challenging for CL places!?

Probably because Sanchez hasn't played much of late so is eager to get going. I hope Nuno goes to a back 3 where he had most success. Sanchez is good in a 3. It would also make sense to get 2 CBs and not a right back if we go to that formation. Tomiyasu can also cover right back and we have a few options for wing back. I would not be surprised to see Tanganga go on loan if we get 2 CBs and keep Sanchez.

So as it stands potentially signing Tomiyasu, Pjanic and another CB. Guess we will need a centre forward also

Isn’t Tomiyasu being signed to play RB?

What formation are we intending to play? This is purely making a point, and not asking people to post formations or discuss the possibilities. PEH, Skipp, GLC, Ndombele plus Pjanic if he comes make 5. The priority is the back line and should be where the bulk of any money we have is spent.

I think I saw somewhere that Nile John is also expected to have some involvement next year

PEH, Skipp, GLC, Ndombele plus one other should be fine.
I'm really hoping that Skipp gets a chance once he is over his injury as he could be just what the doctor ordered!

I'd be very surprised if we did spend 50 mil on anyone this Summer. I don't think we will get close to that figure.

Clubs run by jokers.

Completely the wrong version of events. Walker has always been capable of killing games with bad mistakes, and Poch had basically dropped him a few months before he actually left. The romanticism of Walker is a consistent but factually weak theme on here. Trippier was first choice by the time Walker left, and continued to be whilst he was with us.

I don't think anyone at the club considers Aurier to be crap - and he isn't - more that has made it clear for a year now that he wants to leave, and won't be renewing his contract. Our "best youth RB" was barely played by Poch, but there's a lot of irony/inconsistency in what you've typed there - it seems like you're contradicting every complaint by justifying it, then claiming the club is run by jokers?

I would be quite content to see more young players brought through - every single footballer starts off as an untested young player, even the likes of Aarons, so there's no reason why we shouldn't be making our own Wan Bissaka type CL right backs, than paying some other club £50m for theirs

Damsgaard has a Steffen Iverson feel to it for me :cautious: :shifty:
Iversen was a brilliant striker who had a torrid time with injuries and wasn't the best at keeping in shape during his injury spells, to put it mildly. I don't know anything about Damsgaard's professionalism but a) he isn't a striker and b) he has already played outside his home country.

The only similarities between them in any way is that they're white and Nordic.

That is really disappointing if the extent of our CB revamp is two cheap signings. It just rarely buys the required quality, at least to make a difference for us in terms of league standing.
