Scum or not hope people stay fair on Saka now. Fair play to the lad to give it a go. A good coach should have known better. Sancho/Grealish should be the sub for tripps before.
Agree, I think Southgate took the cautious option knowing Saka can defend fairly well.

But as you said the lad gave it his best but was out of his depth.

Maybe me being harsh but the first 10 mins and last 10 minutes have nothing to do with tactics and its often when either team is most vulnerable due to nerves, pressure and passion

That's a good point, really once Italy settled they played much better and England just went long about 90% of the time. Just look at the stats, 34% possession for England, 6 shots against 19 for Italy. No shots for Kane, don't even think he touched the ball in their area.

Pens is tough to take and fair play to the players that took one but England didn't do enough to win the game in the 120 and were sitting ducks most of the game. Scoring first and that early was probably the worst thing that could have happened to this team with risk averse manager.

It disappointing to lose like that but Grealish when he has come on has made such a difference to this team. Hindsight and all that but Jack on at half time england win that game.

hindsight? Bloody obvious more like!

I thought the ref tonight was nothing short of abysmal. I can't blame him completely for England's failures, but he certainly didn't help with some of those disgraceful decisions.

I hate to say it, but Southgate's tactics in that second half we are bloody shambles too. We came out in that second half and tried to defend a one goal lead. Of COURSE they're going to keep coming at us. Of COURSE they're going to close us down all over the pitch with a high press.

Tonight, football tried to come home but the door was locked and now it's gone away again.

Dunno why people are saying Sancho should've been brought on earlier, there's no evidence to suggest he would've played well as hes yet to produce a good England performance since he's made his debut, hindsight is extremely wonderful.

he's simply one of the hottest young talents in world football. unbelievable skill and technique and has taken the German league by storm. he scores, assists and creates tons of opportunities.

who knows how he would have played, but you what? I would've tried to find out!

Jesus that was painful. Kane really does sum up Spurs, so close but yet so far. I wonder what the record is for a player losing finals but he must be up there.

Unfortunately the early goal really hurt us as we were completely trash afterwards and never in the game. Southgate started to overthink things a bit I think and tried to be too clever but fair play to Italy they dominated the 2nd half and deserved the win.

Nah. Its definitely a burden. On that stage? Come on! No getting over it that quickly.

What does letting it eat you, add to you. It won't be easy but he has to realise dwelling on it will add nothing to him. Not saying he will, but he should. It's just a lesson on the path, take the lesson, not the burden.

Lots of negative comments about Southgate coming now.I trust the posters who argued that nobody should claim to know more than GS as he’s the manager will keep silent.

I don't think nobody should claim to know more than Southgate.

But almost everyone who does, doesn't.

It's all well and good playing well for your club and I certainly agree he's one of the top prospects, he absolutely is, but you also gotta perform in international games, which he has yet to do, and some players just can't do it on the international stage and I really hope he's not one of them.

No wonder he wants out. Kane cant be the main man. He’s Pippen. He aint no MJ. Aint no winner in there. Just a bottler. Proven it time & time again. In finals he just cant do it
Oh bore the fuck off. He was fantastic for 30 minutes until Italy worked out the flow of the game. He then got zero support from anyone in our attacking third and was battling two of the best CBs ever in aerial duels as we hoofed it long over and over again. He then stepped up and bashed his pen right in the corner. Just fuck off Hank.
