Have remained totally calm about this one throughout and not allowed myself to be twisted and turned by one media report to the next. All logic indicates that Inter will most likely have to move him - finances/contract/pending incoming signings. We seem to be in a position to take advantage. If it doesn’t pan out, then c’est la vie and on to the next, most likely that the player didn’t push for it strongly if that happens. I remain confident about this one

Reading the statement from Lukaku's agent was interesting. Suggests the football people at Inter were desperate to keep him but they were told to sell by the owners. Could be the same here...

Seemed to confirm they are in a mess financially as rumoured anyway.

For me something is clearly going on. Either he gets a bumper new salary or he leaves this summer IMO. He just has good representation that is keeping him onside with the fans.

You have to also question whether Martinez will want to stay. Conte left and now 2 of their best players have been sold.

Don't think Inters finances are as bad as people made out
"The bridging loan Zhang struck with Oaktree Capital for €275 million was not for transfers. It was a lifeline granted on the condition the club goes on a strict diet — not only would Conte be unable to add to his team, but it would not be kept together either. Sacrifices would have to be made, with Inter required to bring the wage bill down by 15-20 per cent and end the summer transfer window with a net profit on transfers in the region of €75 million."

"With regards to FC Internazionale, I can guarantee that the Sport CEO Giuseppe Marotta, the sporting director Piero Ausilio - as well as the coach Simone Inzaghi, who worked at this personally - did everything in their power to avoid this transfer.

"But there are circumstances that go beyond their decision-making range and depend on the instructions of the owners."

Obviously from what we know now about their finances (or total lack of...) we're never going to see that £12 million so I would have expected a little more of a friendly tone that what we've heard from them up until now. Let's get this done Fabio!!!

His agent could well be playing the smart, long game. He knows they won't be able to agree a contract but he's now put it completely in Inter's hands. Then, when (and he knows this) no offer materialises and his client is 'forced' to accept Spurs the fans don't kick off at Martinez. Reputation remains intact.

You'd expect that Fabio has already indicated to Martinez's team the sort of wage that we'd be prepared to offer. I doubt Inter could match what we can pay, all things considered.

Inter being in financial difficulty helps us on the one hand, but on the other it also means that they are duty bound to maximise the revenue they make from such a sale and so will try and extract a huge fee.

He seems to be just about the biggest name striker we've been linked with though, so it wouldn't surprise me if we went big on this one to appease the fans somewhat after the loss of Kane. Whether they and he accept is another matter.
