If we're playing a 4-3-3 that's 6 players for 3 CM spots.

That's great depth to have and then it's up to the players who force themselves into the starting 11.

Exactly, would be ideal and it's how you challenge on multiple fronts. I feel like sometimes our supporters don't understand this!

Ndom might sort his attitude out when he realises no one is interested in signing him. Hit the optimistic button.
I'm sick to death of Ndombele's antics but he did get his head down and make progress last season after kicking up a fuss and agitating for a move in the summer. Well, made progress until it all went to shit anyway. On the other hand, the penny does not seem to have dropped that it was his own fucking failings that caused all of the clubs around Europe to turn their noses up at him last summer.

There's a glimmer of hope that he'll take further rejection as a sign that he needs to knuckle down or his career to go to waste, but there's also reason to believe he's just fucking hopeless. Could go either way. Personally I'd rather just get shot of him and hope we can manage to replace him.

Well I said I wanted him a few pages back, but that’s some very good insight there from a point of view that would know more than me, so I feel unsure about this now. All I could proffer is that he has been at Lyon for his entire career, and having just played a fanless Covid season on top of it, perhaps he just finally needed a change of scenery and a new challenge and that could go some way explaining why his form of 18-20 has fallen a little flat.
If we do sign him then I'll judge him on what I see in a Spurs shirt and hope he excels. It does seem risky though, as we really need to get it right with our next CM signing.

Yeah I really hope so too, otherwise I'll fear that we'll see more games than we'd like turning out all too similar to some of last year. Need to start being much more comfortable in possession.

Been banging this drum for ages.

Put simply, we haven’t replaced Eriksen.

I’ve got no idea whether Aouar is the right player as I’ve never seen him play, but we need a quality playmaker for sure. It’s vital.

In my opinion, he's a good player to have in your squad. He would bring loads of qualities we are lacking. For instance, he is good in situations where the team is looking to transition from defence to attack, as well as having the quality of maintaining possession when being pressed and finding the right 'out ball'. He is different to Eriksen in the sense that he is not a playmaker, and surely would not rack up the same assists or chance creation numbers which Christian used to get. Nevertheless I consider him as an attacking player and will help the team going forward for sure.

I would certainly welcome this signing if it were to happen when the likes of Winks and Sissoko are still options for us.

I’ve never seen him play. How does he compare to the other French midfielders we have signed in the past 10 years?

i.e. Capoue, Stambouli, Sissoko & NDombele

I'm fully behind the transfer activity done or likely, but we do still miss a midfielder who can set the tempo.

I think Aouar could do that very well.

I picture Paratici buying Aouar and sticking him in a french themed room with Ndombele as if it's a new toy to keep him happy for a season or two....

while dragging Winks out of the same room and putting him on the next train to Southampton. #dreams

He's more attack minded than those players. In our current 4-3-3 setup he'd probably rotate with Dele in the advanced CM position, in front of the double pivot. Might be able to play deeper against weaker teams I suppose.

He's also been used on the left in occasions, something to keep in mind. I think we're going for more out and out wingers in those positions, but Nuno did sub on GLC at the RW spot to sort of shore up the midfield towards the end of the Wolves match.

Indeed. I was gonna add that he could conceivably play on the wing, but then thought of Nuno's preference for "proper" wingers. You make a good point about the GLC sub ?

I read that to mean that we will be in for Auoar if Ndombele leaves, but as of right now Tanguy is still here so he's not a priority. Similar with McKennie and an outgoing transfer opening up a spot for him.

Let's hope Paratici can find ways of getting shot of Ndombele and the midfield deadwood, as it'd be very exciting to sign both Auoar and McKennie. We'd be adding two young, CL-quality midfielders.

I know I expressed skepticism about his attitude earlier in this thread, and I still do have my doubts, but we need an Ndombele replacement and he's right there to be had at a cut-rate fee. His stats are worth the small monetary risk it would represent. If he kicks up a fuss, just send him out on loan and I have little doubt we could recoup the €20m.
