TRANSFER NEWS: Tottenham and Arsenal are ready to do battle for Houssem Aouar while Tammy Abraham looks for a way out at Chelsea with possible Aston Villa return

Tottenham are ready to battle Arsenal for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.

The Gunners have a long-term interest in the France international, having tried to sign him last summer.

However, Spurs are also looking to add creativity to their midfield and the 22-year-old is on new managing director of football Fabio Paratici’s list of targets.

Aouar scored seven goals and chipped in with three assists in Ligue 1 last season to help Lyon finish fourth.

He still has two years to run on his contract, but Lyon are ready to cash in as they contend with the financial fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.

Creative midfielder with ….. 3 assists ?

Luka Modric, a creative midfielder with... 3 Assists (in the league.)

Aouar also has 7 goals this season in the league from central midfield.

Stats from https://www.transfermarkt.com/

Don't twist my words to say I think he's as good as Modric, he obviously isn't, but he's a class player from what I've seen in the last few years.

Aouar and Ndombele had a very effective partnership at Lyon… would welcome this signing if it means we finally get to see the best of Tanguy.

Not sure how you fit Tanguy, GLC, Dele and Aouar into one squad, especially if it sounds like we may be headed towards 3 ATB.

Signing this guy would be worth it purely to watch the Arsenal meltdown after all the time they've spent chasing him

Think the whole of french football is, not sure if they’ve sorted there TV deal yet or not

I saw Amazon had bought half the games, but didn't know an awful lot about it. I got the impression that Aulas thought they didn't need the money in the past.

I think the TV money issues and them missing out on CL could be a factor. Only 2 years left on deal so they may also try to get top dollar this summer

So Steve Hitchen, who is said to be well versed in the French league could help us identify some decent talent at Spurs prices......if he hadn't been metaphorically been placed in the drawer where you keep rubber bands, old phone chargers and keys for who knows what?...cool.
