£25m + addons vs under £20m for Tomiyasu tells us it is a football decision.
Up fronts etc. right now it’s a cheaper deal. I get the cash flow element. But today, to do this week it’s a cheaper deal.

What's your address so we can send you your "Dillspur told you so" trophy?
Have you not heard that expression, before? It is a bit obscure, but not rude.
You filthmesiter!
Great post completely agree.
I've slated Levy in the past but not going to go overboard on this one small piece of ITK and as you say without any context of the clear details behind the scenes.
The window has gone about as I expected it to, we've lost about £200m+ of revenue the past 2 years so naturally we'd have to be a little bit cautious with things having only just opened back up and no sign of the pandemic going away completely anytime soon.
We've managed to move on a decent amount of players and the squad is in better shape. Some will say Skipp for example doesn't count as a new signing but tbh he kind of does because he's now well and truly in our 1st team plans this season.
Gollini - great back-up for Hugo, improvement on Hart and futureproofing for when Hugo likely leaves next summer
Romero - Serie A best CB. Addressed a key need in CB area. Added to that, Sanchez and Dier are playing with confidence and we have Rodon and Tanganga who can cover so no need at all for another CB signing without another one being sold and its better for us if Sanchez can come good, we spent £45mil on him so rather than take a hit to sell him and bring in another player who may or may not work, if Sanchez is now playing to the level we wanted him at then that's a bonus and great job by Nuno.
Sarr - futureproofing CM to replace and upgrade on Sissoko
Gil - added quality to our attacking options, he can play LW, RW and n.o8, great addition and will be fighting for 1st team minutes
Emerson Royal - Upgrade at RB, added to that Tanganga has come on leaps and bounds so we now have 2 top top class RB's and Aurier's contract will be run down similar to Rose if he can't be sold and Doherty will be a squad option on pretty average wages so no biggie
Yes I think we ideally needed to still bring in a CM and another WF or ST BUT without being able to sell Ndombele to free up funds then i'm not surprised that we've not signed a CM when we have : PEH, Skipp, Dele (like a new signing given Jose didn't play him), Lo Celso, Winks, Gil can also play there as shown in ECL game and we'll have Ndombele also if he stays so plenty of options as it stands, it was fairly obvious to me we'd not be signing a CM unless we'd managed to move on Ndombele which by all accounts was always going to be difficult.
The additional WF/ST is where the window has been a let-down but I'm sure we've tried for Traore and don't have the funds for it right now without making any more sales unfortunately. I think the plan is for the following to be the attacking options:
LW : Son, Gil, Bergwijn, Sessengon
ST : Kane, Scarlett (*Son can fill in for Kane when needed and will get games where he's rested also given the numbers we have in wide areas)
RW: Lucas, *others will rotate into this spot
So yes the lack of a WF/ST is a big big disappointment and is where we will fall short in terms of goals scored especially if Kane and/or Son get major injuries but aside from that the squad is much more balanced and tidied up and we have to remember that Nuno likes a small tight-knit squad so we are literally mabye 2 signings away from him having a pretty much ideal squad to work with.
Lets try and focus on the positives but I do agree the lack of WF/ST signing is a worry and might be something we have to address in January based on injuries etc.
Not one person is defending Levy? In fact if one thing unites this current thread it’s the annoyance at his involvement.Love it!
Nice to see the happy clappers, still defending Levy. They are starting to boarder on Trump supporters delusion
Think that’s wishful thinking. Leaking something anonymously to a Spurs web forum isn’t going to get anyone’s attention but us nerds.
If Levy is sticking his oar in re Traore and Bergwijn, then Paratici, and Hitchen should resign. You either trust them to do the job and leave them to get on with it, or you stick to the setup we had before.
On the other hand, if they knew they’d need to get Levy’s sign off to spend this amount of money on one player, then they really should have had a plan C in place in case they couldn’t negotiate Wolves down to a price that all parties were happy with. As things stand, we are going into the season with a squad worse off than when we started the transfer window with. I don’t see signing two first eleven players as a success. Not signing a striker is bad enough, to not follow through with the plan B for not signing a striker is just pathetic. Levy interference or not, this is a failure for Paratici as much as it is for the little bald fella.
Which would be massively disappointing if we are not going to give the cups a good go.To those who are asking who will play in cups...
I am convinced all eggs in one basket , that is PL and CL qualification. We will play the B team in cups - template is already set in not flying the main XI for the away leg vs Pacos. If the B team gets to knockouts, may be will bring in the big boys.
Otherwise, I am sure, our focus is only PL ..especially with the start we have had
I'll confess - after I typed it, a little voice in my brain went, 'heh-heh-heh'.the 13 yr old in me is alive and well!

the 13 yr old in me is alive and well!
I also recall our Scandinavian contingent being totally against us going for Conte, so I question the judgment of this broadcaster.Norwegian Premier League brodcaster TV2 has us as the winner of this transfer window (apart from PSG), so clearly not everyone sees it as bad as some of you guys.
That said, I agree we should bring in an attacker tonight. But overall a good window regardless.
Seriously i do wonder about people on here. Firstly there is no proof that Levy has stopped any deal bar one ITK post which, whilst in all good faith COULD be slightly inaccurate or biased in some way. Secondly, nobody on here has a clue about what deals were, or were not in the pipeline anyway. Thirdly of those deals, nobody knows what the selling clubs were asking AND, more importantly HOW they wanted to be paid. Finally, nobody on here knows the current financial position of the club with regards to commitments and revenue forecasts.
If you take all these unknowns and add them together i cannot see how anyone can get so bent out of shape about anything they read on here.
IF Levy said no to the deal with Wolves, it may be because they want a large portion, or all, of the c£45m upfront. Levy may have budgeted that amount but is unable to sanction it all in one year. He would then have a duty to the club and shareholders not to push the in-year spend above their operating budget. By doing so he may jeopardise the clubs credit rating and impact the ability to "re-mortgage" the loan debt that they are constantly trying to rebalance. Look at the Ronaldo deal. Utd are paying c£18m for him over FIVE years. Utd have way more cash coming in than Spurs and even they wont front up £12m in one year.
However disappointing you think the window is, it has to be in context with the club you support. Tottenham do not have huge sums of money to play with and if we cannot structure a deal within our means we should not risk the future accounts. At the end of the day we have found a potential long-term replacement for Hugo before he leaves next season on a free. We have upgraded our RB position which was one of the weakest positions last season. We have strengthened our CB position by replacing Toby with a younger model. We have refreshed the CM by bringing Skipp back and releasing Sissoko. We have brought in the talented Gil (who will play more than most think), we have brought in an exciting young CM for the future, kept our talisman, signed Son up to a new contract and replaced a manager who was not supported by the fans or the players. That is not a bad summers work. No there is no replacement for Vinicius (but did he offer more than Scarlett could do this season? I dont think so) and no we haven't replaced Bale directly but between Gil, Berg and Lucas could they not fill that goal/assist tally? Probably.
We are Tottenham, not City or Utd or Chelsea, we cannot compete with them in regards to dealing in the market and if we compare our transfer dealings and squads to them we will always be disappointed. We need to be looking at clubs like Leicester who are able to scout and develop players into those of "top 4" quality. We will be a nearly club until we get lucky or get sold, we have to live with that fact and just enjoy the ride......or get off.
Setting a budget isn't interfering. He should be doing precisely that - here's a budget, off you go.
My line manager sets my budget. I spend it and he reviews my performance at certain points in the year. He doesn't watch what I do and then stick his oar in if he disagrees with me. My budget may not be in the hundreds of millions, but it's seven figures. It's not an insignificant amount. And it's public money I'm spending. He gives me my head - if I do well, when we get to performance review time, he trusts me with more, and if I do badly, he rearranges my responsibilities, or would even consider dismissal.
He doesn't stand over my shoulder and interfere with every decision I make.
That isn't defending Levy though. That's what they think of Traore and his worth or what he offers in their minds.Really, I've seen a number of post saying we don't need Traore or that the price is to high?
Without wishing to suggest what those posters are saying, I expect it’s from their desire to not sign that particular player.Really, I've seen a number of post saying we don't need Traore or that the price is to high?
