It's really disingenuous to claim this is just spoilt temper-tantrums.

The bottom line is that we need to be in the Champions League. If we want to get the commerical deals we need for the stadium, if we want to be able to recruit the calibre of players we need to replace Kane (and Toby, Jan, Eriksen, etc), if we want to bring in sufficient income for all of our expenditure.

A "slow and cheap" rebuild is more expensive that a "short and expensive" rebuild as it's 100s of millions we lose from not being in the CL every year. If this "transition season" spreads out over several years then we're going to be in an awful position. It seemed that Levy had finally ceded this point and we were going to make a serious attempt to rebuild this season.
I just don't buy into the idea that CL qualification can only be achieved by spending big. £60m spent on Ndombele rather proves the point. It's about who we buy, not how much we spend.

You can add Bryan as well.

Do you really think Ings would have come to play second fiddle behind a player who expects to play every game?
He'd have played loads.

Loads of games. And I bet my left bollock he'd have jumped at the chance.

We were after Martinez for christ sake.

Has there ever been an end to the transfer window that hasn't descended into argument? I feel a bit in the middle. Not going to go overboard with optimism over the window or the season ahead but don't see a reason to get upset either.

I thought last summer with Bale, Rodon, Hojbjerg, Vinnie, Doherty, Regulion, Hart most thought it was good/ok minus the Skriniar deal falling through.

Including players in there twice is a nice trick to bolster the squad. No way Dele's a CF.

It's Kane and Scarlett, Son at a massive push. We're short up front. We're short in midfield and we're short in defence.

It wasn't meant to be a trick but agree only 2 + Scarlett are realistic options. Son is a better Striker than most teams have. We do need another CF.

Midfield. If Lo Celso and Ndombele are fit and available then we are fine. If anything overstocked. I am a little concerned about DCM, alot of pressure on Skipp.

Defence. Unless you've completely given up on all 4 of Dier, Sanchez, Rodon and Tanganga as good CBs then we are in great shape at the back now. Personally I think that between a better a RB and CB partner which hopefully Romero and Royal are then all of them will perform much better.

It's poor that we don't have a back-up CF.

Are we the only club in the PL without 2 established strikers at the club?

Winning 3 games by a score of 1-0 has seemingly been Levy's justification to stop investing in the squad, on the basis that it's clearly good enough.

We've been here before, where a string of good results were used as justification for not continuing to invest, and look how that turned out.

It's not good enough, it's sloppy bordering on the negligent, and shows that lessons have not been learned at exec level when it matters.

If you want to take people's frustration and disappointment at the same old shit being rolled out and frame it as them being somehow mentally unstable and unequipped to deal with life's hardships then that's on you, but other than in the minds of a small band of pro-Levy simps, you're not saying anything vaguely impressive or appropriate.
? well done fella you have proved me right. Grow up

What I legit don’t understand is what was the deal with the Martinez and Vlahovic bids/interest? So the club knew they needed another attacker but decided it was either those two or no one else in world football?

Where did the money go that we were going to spend on either of them? Surely that could have been used for Traore.
My guess is that we would have spent on one of these players, using the money we expected to get from Kane next window. Leaving us with one striker after a year (again).

I'll be happy enough if we bring in 5 or 6 more quality players over the next 2 transfer windows.

I guess we'll see.

Red is not good enough, orange is where you made up their position to make us look stronger.

This is what's left:

GK: Lloris, Gollini
RB: Emerson, Tanganga
CB: Romero, Rodon,
LB: Reguillon, Davies, Sess
DCM: Skipp, PEH
CM: Dele, Lo Celso
Wide Forwards: Son, Moura, Bergwijn, Gil
CF: Kane, Scarlett
Agree with your point, but I doubt if Romero and Rodon will ever keep 3 clean sheets in a row.

Not buying a striker, AM or midfielder when we need them will make CL difficult and a few failure signings on our part doesn’t change the fact clubs that spend the most generally win the most. Ideally we scout well and therefore don’t have to spend big but we are going into the season with 2-3 holes in the squad, that is frustrating.

Nice way to dress up our CF shortage
Agree, but honestly, Kane Son (having bought Gil who can cover Son's position if ne needs to move forward) and Scarlett is really not bad for a team that plays 1 up front. A Vinicious-type signing adds very little and just bleeds more money.

Ings and Daka were both big mistakes from what should have bee achievable targets.
Also would’ve put us in a much better position when kane leaves next summer when it comes to bringing in a replacement rather than the desperate position we’ll be in to replace him. It’ll no doubt dominate the whole window and be used as an excuse as to why we don’t strengthen other areas of need

Same old story on deadline day. The feeling of frustration / disappointment is a common one dating back to Moutinho, Cahill, and now Traore. All would’ve been great acquisitions for us but each time we fell short for one reason or another.

I wish I didn’t get my hopes up every time. Adama would’ve been a game changer. ?

I think people really need to stop using the Tanguy Ndombele deal as a cudgel to beat the idea of a higher priced signing with.
It has seemingly gone wrong, but there are so many other big money signings that were transformative for clubs. Aguero, Hazard, VVD, on and on.

We can’t be gun-shy just because we got it wrong once before

My only gripe of the Summer. Both of those were pretty big fuck ups, IMO.

If we sign either of those I think we're all pretty happy.
