Where’s that “always was” meme when you need it?
This?

Diaz seems like a quality player but I do wonder why we are trying to spend this sort of money on a left winger.

We have earmarked a lcb, rwb, cm and a CF. For me we are in desperate need of a central midfielder or 2.

If money is tight this window why are we not putting this sort of money towards the positions we need?
Maybe now DV is off the cards they’re thinking about getting a winger in who will score goals in the meantime.

Then in the summer go on a striker hunt for a Kane backup!

You think he has nothing to do with a transfer of this size? Paratici may negotiate but Levy will still control as usual. The fact we are leaving everything so late and the way the traore deal is playing out shows its business as usual
OK, let's agree to disagree. You have your opinions about how you think the club works, and I have mine.

Let's leave it there.

He obviously isn't coming. We never get these kind of deals done so lets move on.
Which kind of deals? In the last window we signed Romero who was voted the best defender in Serie A last season.

Honestly so bored of the same rhetoric all the time - a combination of moaning when we try and sign top talent like Diaz, and at the same time moaning that we try and sign lower-profile players like Amrabat that are perceived not to be ambitious enough for a club like us. Which is it - are we being too ambitious or not ambitious enough?

I wish this story, like the Dybala one, had never seen the light of day - it just makes you feel worse than if you had never known it was considered

If this is true I wonder how long it will take for us to realise that we should see if the player is interested in us before bothering to negotiate. Could well be bollocks given Romano is saying the opposite but we have previous with Torres in the summer. You can understand the player's point of view but seems like we're just wasting our time which is totally avoidable.

So every player we approach who says yes, we don't believe them until they pass a lie detector?

Every deal starts with players agents saying yes/agreeing terms.

The majority of players will probably say yes. The actual decision only comes when club or clubs actually bid and fee is agreed.

When Torres said no eventually it wasn't in shock that we'd bid out of the blue.

You know what I’m bored of? The club putting in bids for players they have no intention of trying to buy unless it’s for fifty quid and ham sandwich. Which seems the case here. Again.

I just can't believe (and don't believe) that a bid would ever go in without sounding out the players agent or the player first. I think it's all part of the "spin" for journalists. I never read that and say wow he doesn't want to come.

I'm sure he'd be fine coming, I'm sure he's probably at some point said, "wow it'd be nice to play at Liverpool" and if we had the bid agreed, I think the "spin" would be in a more positive light. Not all players are born Spurs through and through and even if he wants to wait for Liverpool, I'm sure the prospect of moving to Spurs isn't so bad either.

It's worth remembering that all of these 'Media' outlets would make no money during the transfer window if they reported every transfer as plain sailing.

'Transfer Saga' = ££££

And even if it is true, and he does end up at Liverpool, fuck it. It's not the end of the world.

Have we seen the bid itself - how much it is and what are the terms?
Has an official bid actually been made, rather than maybe the club speaking to Porto with exploratory interest in Diaz's price and availability?

The fact is we are completely ignorant of the realities, and we're basing all our discussion from a few twitter reports from media types who make their money from spinning transfer stories.

So how do you actually know that the club has put in a derisory bid "fifty quid and a ham sandwich"? The answer is you don't. Even if the media reports are to be believed the bid is massive - one of the biggest in the Portugal league's history.

This sounds like it's fizzled in remarkably quick time - oh well, easy come, easy go. At least we won't be hanging on on deadline day
