Highest praise I can give him is if the ball goes to him I know he’s going to make the right decision. Doesn’t try to overplay it if there’s nothing on, but he’s also perfectly balanced in when he decides to take someone on, play a dangerous ball, take a shot, etc. Just shows how intelligent he is and for someone so young, that’s incredibly rare. Got ourselves an absolute gem.
I said this today that he and Bentancur give you that same feeling you had with Eriksen where you know they’re always going to do the right thing with that ball.

Others will get the (deserved) headlines and plaudits today, but he was absolutely lovely to watch yet again.
A proper intelligent and technical footballer. They can be found!
Some players just look like they have so much more time on the ball

Always seems to be thinking about the next move/pass, has a lovely touch, good strength and is no slouch

Great prospect

Kulu has played in a midfield 3 as a forward thinking box to box in the past, and to good effect too. However, a traditional number 10 I doubt it. For a few reasons.

Playing out wide has been by far his best role, and interestingly both Kranjcar and Draxler were far better players when not playing centrally.

Never seen him play as a box-to-box midfielder tho, where was that at? I have followed him as a fellow swede for a long time, and in his early youth, he was always playing as a striker in a 2 even in the Parma youth team where he won the Italian youth league golden boot and was awarded best young player in Italy (in that position) In the Swedish national team he has said a numerous of times that he sees himself as a striker in a 2, that has a more free role to roam around (like a 10) and that was the position he played next to Ronaldo during the season where he started most of the games with Prilo in charge and did it well in the struggling Juve that year.

I truly believe that he should focus on a role as a striker in a 2 because he is ridiculously strong has the smartness to link up well with a striker-partner, although at the moment lacking that killer finishing inside the box, which usually takes time to master and therefore many young talented strikers with other top qualities gets sent out on a wing because the coach many times does not see the player as a "goal guarantee" at the moment, Similar to Dele that in my eyes always should have played as a Striker in a 2 but was sent out on a wing for many similar reasons and was seen more as a midfielder in the end, instead of a striker which is the role he is more suited to, although in today's game there is less common to play in that traditional 2 striker partnership.

I know that's where he plays for sweden but I'm not sure it's his role. If you look at his output it very much decreases when in that position, but we will see. Also I assume you mean Atalanta youth team where he largely played centrally either as a second striker or deeper in midfield, but at Parma he really exploded when he played on the wing.

I am pretty sure he played in a 3 man midfield on occasion for Parma. But you are right that he sees himself as a more central player. To quote:

"From the beginning my role was a trequartista … I can be a winger, last season I was a mezzala so I can play wherever the coach wants, but I see myself as a trequartista behind the strikers.”

Mezzala = playing in a wide position in a midfield 3.

I think the thing that gives ts me most excited is you can already see the way he spots the space / opportunity when there is an overload (which contes system is all about). And that is with Doherty alongside. Imagine what happens when you add pace / decent crosser of the ball.. I think he'll use that both to release and as a decoy brilliantly. Don't think lamptey is the answer (hammys/cost), but can you imagine his pace outside kulu... Yes please!

There was a moment yesterday I think as he was just about to come off that you could see him generally appreciating the crowds chants for him... Not only is he class but he loves the club already.

Nah, we need a pacey player like Traore...not enough running down blind alleys for me...

I would say Traore and him on the right would have been incredibly fun to watch. Probably incredibly maddening at times as they are about as opposite as players as possible, but fun nonetheless.

Excuse my ignorance on this but what's the situation on his loan... Is it a pre-agreed fee or will we need to negotiate / pay higher transfer to finalise the deal?

I believe it is after a certain number of games but if we want him, we will have him.

It's a loan fee of 10m euros for 18 months. Then we have both an option clause AND an obligation to buy at 35m euros when certain sporting milestones are met, including Champs League appearances etc.

So we can choose to buy him when we want, OR wait for the obligation to activate.

The overall deal therefore is 45m euros.

But bear in mind that Bentancur (19m euros + 6m in add ons) was knowingly underpriced due to the 50% sell-on agreement Juve had to Boca.

So best to see the two deals together as totalling £58m (70m euros) if Bentancur's add-ons are met. Or £53m if they are not.

I'd call it £27m-£29m for each player.

A pretty decent deal.

Edit: The loan is actually £2.5m for this season and £5.8m next season. So if we buy Kulu early we pay a max of £52m for both players.

I'm sure we don't have to pay next seasons loan fee if we decide to make it permanent this summer. That shaves about £6m off the price.

I think it's a one-off loan fee of 10m euros for the 18 months? Or is there another fee involved?

I might be wrong but I'm sure Ally Gold said we get a discount on the deal if we do it this season rather than next. I assumed it would wipe the loan fee.

I can't see us signing yet though especially with a busy summer and Romero still to pay this summer. I think we leave it until next year to make Kulu permanent , maybe Jan but most likely in the summer. We should have the majority of the rebuild done in the next 2 windows so shouldn't need to spend as much then.
