For me it was instantly noticeable yesterday how much better our midfield is when he plays. Will start most games. The question will be who is his best partner
Looking forward to seeing Yves alongside him I think PEH will still get plenty of games but he's been played into the ground the last few seasons

The closest thing we’ve had to Carrick since he left. Always available for a pass, never flustered, passes off both feet, and reads the game so we’ll that he snuffs out danger before it develops. Great signing.

This is the thing, the best thing about our depth now is that we shouldn't need to play exhausted players in key positions.

Yeah I thought that the other day, moves like Berbatov and plays like Carrick.

I imagine we'll start the season with the starting XI that ended last season. Especially when you consider how Conte likes his players to fully know their roles and the system.
Probs but we would be very stupid to not start bissouma against chelsea after he dominated their midfield last season

Something like this?
Went back and watched the second half and have two observations.
1658252993252.png

  • The error occurred right around the 60:25 mark or so. he was facing his own goal near the 18 yard line and upon receiving a pass attempted to dribble towards the line. There were three players around him and he may not have sensed the player who eventually took the ball. It was either that or as others have pointed out, it could also be that he didn't appreciate the game speed.
  • That was the only "error" i could find and watching it a second time demonstrated what a positive impact on the game. He was head and shoulders above above when it came to moving the ball quickly especially under pressure. His vision is superb and the number of ridiculous, sublime plays the guy made was Dembele-esque.
I suspect that part of the bias on Rodrigo (and others) we all have is based on the types of errors you are willing to accept in a player. It is tough to see someone with such immense talent make such an avoidable error. Perhaps it is a bit too strict of a standard for some in here, but it did create a goal scoring opportunity for Sevilla. What i do think we can all agree on is that if he can eliminate those types of errors, the impact on the team will be even greater.

I’ve watched de bruyne make countless errors. All players do, it’s part of the game

It is. I'm not taking away from the talent whatsoever. It's there. But there are also degrees of errors too. Making a mistake on the attacking or middle third is very different than a mental mistake in the defensive third. I don't think i've ever seen deBruyne give the ball away in his own box. I'm sure it has happened but i've noticed (and others have) is that Rodrigo may underestimate the speed of the game. that should come with time.

Yrah maybe, but it’s in pre season so I’d rather him do it now

Was chatting to a Juventus supporting colleague who was visiting last week from the Milan office (yes I am aware that Juventus is in Torino...)

Naturally I mentioned paratici, kulu and bentancur and what a difference those two players have made

He couldn't believe it, said maybe kulu, but bentancur is the worst player he'd ever seen at juve and was amazed I liked him

I love that we have actual competition in the CM position. It's only going to force players to give their all in training and games. Every possible CM (whether 2 or 3 man) partnership offers something different without weakening the team.

Agree, but not the same range of passing. An amazingly underrated player other than by spurs fans.. His range and accuracy in pass was closet to Pirlo....

Rodrigo has a mistake in him hes made a few that's his only issue hopefully he gets more accustomed to the speed. But also were not a very comfortable team on the ball. Hopefully Lengelet will help that out

I'm really bored at the moment so I've been going through a juve forum for their opinions on FP, kuvuleski and bentancur.

Found this... (Warning - this is weird)

I think with both him and Romero having these qualities, we are extremely fortunate. I love watching them both.

Carrick was my favourite player when he was here, particularly his second season. He was the perfect midfielder for that era of England too, to anchor all that attacking talent we had. For some reason he was criminally under used. I’ll never understand that. Bentancur certainly reminds me of him, and if he continues as he has started, along with Bissouma, that’s a great combination midfield. I was always gutted that Carrick didn’t stick around to play with Berbatov in our team.
