Bang on, it’s certainly very different to Joseball.
The tactical positioning is different. Under Conte, there are always two to three players in support or moving into support positions (and sometimes four) More importantly, the players know where to look for the support so they need less time on the ball. There are exceptions (we looked rather static near the end of the game in the front third) but for the most part, there is better movement towards and away from the ball.

Easy win, didn’t need to get out of 2nd gear. Nottingham Forest had decent energy and their fans will get them a lot of points at home this season so think they’ll stay up.

If Son, Kane and Kulu are on form we score 5-6 today.

No need to panic yet, but this is exactly why we are building a squad capable of rotating without a massive drop off in quality.

that's ok as apparently we aren't supposed to have the ball, just stay in our shape.
Nobody has said that. What is being said it that we don't need the ball to execute our game plan because we don't concede space. We don't concede a high amount of big chances either. 4 shots on target against us in 18 minutes of football, only 1 was today, and the 3 Wolves ones 2 were from 20+ yards.

It would be nice to have a bit more control of the ball and dictate the game, but while we are still getting up to speed, we are controlling games without the ball

Tyler needs a reducer every time he leaves his house.

I haven't had Sky Sports for may years and used other mediums for my entertainment. I know have Sky Sports and he has the same old clichés on speed dial. The it's the bits like "the old Spurs" and he pushes that Spurs are the villains agenda.

I watched the Arsenal game last night and found many of their players diving (Saka) & simulating (Jesus) amongst others and nothing was said.

8 straight wins at home I think they were. The crowd were up for it and the players were too but that early goal was so vital today.

Should have been more, we had a lot of good counters today we just couldn’t get a clear chance away.

Happy with the win though and we have another big away game midweek now.

Genuine question. Is ball juggling and showboating against the rules? Judging by the reaction from everyone not at Tottenham it must be..

Stats. Sigh
Watching that game we could easily have conceded as we had little control of the game because again we were outnumbered in midfield. If we had who knows what the result would have been.
That possession stat is mainly because at the end Forest got ragged and more direct which played into our hands.
You do realise by letting the opposition have the ball and us dropping back ready to pounce on the counter is literally us controlling the game?

If you genuinly think Forrest outplayed us and were so much better than us we couldn't control possession then I question whether you watch us enough to even understand how we operate.
Why does it feel like everyone has been brainwashed into believe the only way to control and win football matches is by having the majority of possession?
This 100%

We very rarely have more possession than most teams we play, even at home, but that's just how we set up.

Forest played like a cheaper version of City just without the firepower to score goals, and even City struggle against our gameplay even when they fully know what we will do.

The scariest part for me today was how the players were going to react to the atmosphere. The home fans were fantastic and were a 12th man for most of that game. Even when we scored early on it didn't deter them. Our away fans are excellent but we're made fairly quite today from the sheer noise the home support made. Fair play to them.

10/12 points having played Chelsea away without actually looking near our best is excellent.

We will only get better.

But isn't the point that we *have* been successful against the better teams (bar Chelsea) with this strategy?

Many City x2
Liverpool X2
Arsenal

And that's just last season. You can argue that against City at least it's the optimum strategy full stop. If we don't have the technical players to keep the ball for long periods, and we do have the players suited to swift vertical attacks, then why wouldn't we do it?
Absolutely against the top teams, we should be more cautious but I think we have better midfielders than Nottingham Forest to be more proactive and attacking..

I think we are managing games tactically very well under conte (no suprise as he’s world class), so even when we don’t play at our best we are solid and in with a chance to win the game.

We will get better and better as the season goes on.

Our signings are already showing how important 2 quality players in every position is.

Great to hear we still want 2 new signings to complete the puzzle (6th AM and 6th CB).

If we get those it should be a very very exciting season in all competitions.

Son has been off form but he’ll be fine once he scores his first goal of the season.

Also credit to Sanchez! 10 hrs now since we’ve conceded a goal with him playing, and credit to conte in his coaching and improving him.

Arsenal will bottle it at some point so all good.

Might be up to 3 yet dependant on outs.

Not read the entire thread so maybe it’s already been asked but how was the defender not sent off for the handball as it stopped a clear goal and made no attempt to make a clean tackle.

it is seen by many as showing a lack of respect. Back in the day, doing a Marseille turn (before Maradona made it so main stream) was seen as invitation to break an ankle.

Edit: Just saw this

Without having seen the incident since the game it looked to me that the ball had both already gone over Kane's head and was also going wide at the far post. So it wasn't a denial of a goalscoring opportunity, nor did it stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Could be wrong. I'll try to find a replay.

Edit, just seen a replay. It doesn't look like it had gone over Kane's head after all, but it also doesn't look like he was going to easily reach it. Borderline. Could have been a red another day.

A bit of ball juggling is now unsportsmanlike apparently. Football should be entertainment and I thought people wanted to see showboating and skills?

Agreed. And what's the difference between a bit of ball juggling and doing a hundred step-overs?

Why are we getting up to speed? It’s the same team that played last season. You wouldn’t think it as we have been so poor with the ball. Like we have never trained what to do with it. Maybe it’s just early season and we are still fatigued from the pre season. Anyway it’s been a terrible watch so far. It’s not sustainable either. West Ham or even a good team will do us playing like this. Actual West Ham will beat us if we don’t improve.

Hence I am always praying we can win the league or CL very soon so as to see their anguished faces.

Nice one mate, thanks for sharing as always.

Won’t start the guessing games on incoming names etc, but 2 signings, assuming CB and AM would give us one hell of a squad, 3 top signings and it’s an 11/10 window.

Obviously without knowing what the 3rd position could be and if it would be a youngster and 2 1st teamers or 3x 1st teamers depending on outgoings as you say, it’s hard to say but I’d be interested to keep an eye on Lucas and Doherty as neither of them getting many minutes, Doherty more likely is because of coming back from a serious injury but I think with Lucas Conte likes his attitude etc but he will know he’s not particularly effective or at the level we need.

Conte keeps saying about the need for 2 quality players in each position, so it would seem like 6th CB will be an obvious need if Tanganga goes, 5/6th AM is needed especially when Gil goes and then it’s a case of do we get another AM to upgrade on Lucas or do we get another CM if Skipps injury issues are a concern and Sarr isn’t ready yet.

Not guessing names of signings but looking at it logically as we seem to be doing it would seem that we will look to sign a CB and AM for sure and then either a further AM or CM depending on Lucas/Skipp situations in terms of if Lucas going to be moved on and/or are skipps injuries a concern especially if Sarr isn’t ready to fill in regularly in big important games if needed.

Exciting next few days, should hopefully be a positive end to a what has so far been a fantastically refreshing and positive and well planned out and well executed transfer window.

I think it's just an old fashioned thing I think as it doesn't translate to tiger leagues, players like Messi, Neymar etc do it in Europe and everyone loves it.

Here it's seen as disrespectful for some odd reason, if someone wants to waste their own teams time showing off, why worry about it?
