If he wasn't the ninth signing of them summer I would probably have cared, but he might be the 9th signing of the summer
This. We've sorted out 70-80 percent of the issues in the squad whether we sign Dan James or not

His assessment of "utter bile" might have been OTT, but then you've certainly over reacted based on a couple of twitter links. We have been looking at numerous options, how these enquiries are blown up by the media isn't the clubs fault. We've got less than 2 days left, if we end up with Dan James we can all join hands and sing our disapproval in unison. If we end up with someone better or even no one at all, you're going to look more than a little foolish for once again jumping the gun based on very little.
You're like old wise man of SC tribe Trix, like Yoda. Suprised you still have power to educate people in here and deal with some shit. But I highly apprieciate that.

His utter bile comment was way OTT. Ridiculous comment from the bloke to be honest. Well I'll shut up and wait to see how it all pans out, I'll take looking foolish if we get someone better ;)

I doubt Kane would be happy with this move. It’s not a move that ANY of the other big clubs would make and it very much feels like a Llorente/Sissoko move.

The lack of ambition is excruciating.
How is it a lack of ambition? Kane has stated on several occasions how happy he is and especially with Conte. Pretty sure he won’t bat an eye lid at us signing a squad player when he looks around and sees what first team strength we have.

Do people honestly think if signed James will rotate with Kulu?

I can't see that personally, I think we have 4 first choice players for our front 3 who will rotate during our heavy schedule. Lucas and James would be bench options coming on in the last 10/15 minutes IMO. Of course they would start the odd game here and there but for the vast majority of our games surely 3 out of our 4 main players will start in the front 3?

Son/Kane/Kulu
Richy/Kane/Kulu
Son/Richy/Kulu
Son/Kane/Richy

Surely the combinations above are going to be the most frequent starters.
4 good players for 3 positions when we’re playing every 3-4 days for 3 months straight before the World Cup is not enough

Also people really do seem to be forgetting that we have 5 subs this season onwards. Buying shite isn’t going to help us whatsoever- it’s not about 5th choice or bench options. It’s about quality dropping when subs need to be made.
True but James is hardly 'shite', that's harsh and OTT.

Before Man.U started struggling and James got moved to a 10mins off the bench role, he was pretty much returning a goal contribution every other game.

I'm not saying he'll be a dream signing but the guy is not 'shite'. He's got pace to burn and still only 24.

I get the frustration, because we all want the best possible options for the club. What I've seen of late though is if it's a good player you want linked then it's "oh I hope we get him". If it's one you don't like it's "the club is a disgrace" neither link is more definite than the other yet you pin your colours to one mast and not the other.

Yep and that sort of balance is probably quite good to have in terms of managing squad morale.

Its a fine balance because if we got a 5th attacker of real quality like Zaha, Ziyech, Carrasco, Zaniolo etc etc then that would be brilliant for squad depth and I know with 2 games a week they'd get decent minutes but ultimately if all stay fit then you'd have two pretty unhappy players most weeks who are expecting to play. It could work out fine but at the same time James and Lucas can both do a job as 5th and 6th attacking options so not end of the world, also Perisic can play AM if needed.

Personally I'd rather another top quality AM gamechanger like a Zaha, Ziyech, Carrasco, Zaniolo etc but if we got a Traore or a James I don't think it would be the end of the world, we'd just need to hope that the 4 you've mentioned stay mostly fit so we can primarily rotate them.

as with Traore, if James gives us a squad option, and provides a skill set that Conte doesn’t believe Gil has then I can see the sense in it, but only on loan. It will give us cover until Jan and then we can reassess our options and move for a permanent player if targets are available eg. Zaniolo if he doesn’t sign a new contract.

I think people forget that every top side that wins stuff always has a few journey men that can do a job and make up the numbers when necessary in there as well. Personally I'd rather we didn't end up with James and hope it would only be a loan if we did, but I'm not going to lose my shit if AC thinks he can do a job.

James is homegrown so could be as simple as that, he's also got prem experience and imo he's better and more ready than Gil is at this point in time and I think Conte agree's hence the decision to loan Gil out for one more season.

Without directly hearing from Conte and FP it is hard to say but to me Gil certainly looks talented so I can see why a lot of people are keen to give him the minutes, but he is also very very raw and lightweight, he runs around a lot and looks busy but his end product has been near on non-existent and so that in combination with his lack of physicality could be why we are looking at other options. James would be a bit of a strange one as he is same/similar height to Gil but perhaps as he's a bit older and more used to the league he's physically a bit more ready.
Which sounds alot like a potential arrival....

Does anyone believe James is anything other than Paratici trying to play the hand he's been dealt at the last moment?

All this shite about him being a 'fraud' - nearly every player we've bought under him has been exciting or at least very solid so far, with a few new faces not yet playing.

Clearly the question is more about how this relates to future dealings - are we trying to find solutions that keep us flexible for the next two windows rather than committing an outlay on a stop-gap player? Seems like it.

This is selective at best. It cuts off in December 2019. United finished 3rd that season and 2nd in 20/21. Their struggles didn't start until 21/22 and James was completely peripheral throughout this time.

He has pace but he's not a great dribbler and defences have worked out how to play him. But for Bamford and Sinisterra's injuries this season he would be a bench player at best for Leeds and there's no way we should be considering him.

Again the player you and I see, is not necessarily the same player they see.

I think they want a player to come on in second halves and run at defences or carry the ball up the pitch quickly. That player has to come with the realisation that he’s not going to be first choice or probably play that much. That’s probably a hard sell to a player. Also, it seems we don’t want to spend much money on the player.

But we’ve all seen him play. He’s a run fast and do everything else average kind of player. There really isn’t anything else to him. Whilst I agree on your post, I think in this instance, this particular player is just too one dimensional. Anyway, I’m still sceptical we want him despite my first paragraph.

Agree.

It is interesting looking at the other top teams its a mix of 4,5,6 top players in the AM positions. We have 4. If we sign e.g. James then we have 4 top players and 2 decent squad options. I'm with you that given the fixture schedule etc we need 5 top AM's.

I don't mind James but would hope we can do a bit better. I agree with others he's not a huge step up on Gil tbh just a bit more prem experience and homegrown.

Man.City : Haaland, Grealish, Foden, Marhez, Alverez, B.Silva (YES 6) but they have a cheatcode of a squad
Liverpool : Nunez, L.Diaz, Salah, Jota, Carvallaho (not amazing quality yet) (4 top players and 1 rotation unless i've missed someone?)
Arsenal : Jesus, Martinelli, Saka, Odergaard, Smith-Rowe, Nketia (I'd say thats 4 good quality and 2 ok quality)
Chelsea : Sterling, Mount, Havertz, Pulisic, Ziyech (5 top players)
Man.U : Rashford, Ronaldo, Sancho, Elanga, Anthony?, B.Fernandes (5 top players + youngester)
