He’s definitely not anywhere near good enough to be our starting RWB, and he’s probably not even good enough to be a reserve wing back. Awful waste of money and hopefully we can recoup some of it. Seems unlikely though given the European market.

Who recommended him?

How does this post fit with the fact that Conte clearly thinks he IS our best starting back when we have several other options - Doherty, Perisic and Spence?

Is there a chance, perhaps, that the metrics you as a an armchair fan use to evaluate a players worth, are not the same as the metrics used by an elite Football manager?

The Emerson narrative amongst Spurs fans is embarrassing. The same people who never thought Walker and Trippier were good enough.... Spare me.

Yeah, I think his shortcomings are well-known, at this point. I’m more interested in figuring out what RWB we can sign that will fit this system like a glove. Pedro Porro looks good, and have said previously maybe there’s a way to sweeten that deal by including the 50% of fee we are owed with the eventual sale of Marcus Edwards.

people were actually booing him whilst passing to Kane who passed to son who scored…

embarrassing is just the word…it is actually making me not want to go to games more than the levy out crowd!

It's just toxic. The same people now screaming for Doherty were treating him exactly the same as they now treat Royale before the Leeds game last season.

I'd love to make them say what they post in here to Conte's face.

Translates to the stands too. Atmosphere was dreadful tonight. Been getting worse as the season has gone on - despite our position in league and CL being good. Fucking wobble your heads spurs fans and stop being so fucking toxic...

It’s so nice to have someone I can agree with!! Problem is we are in the minority
I just watched the highlights again and royal loosely I know played a part in 2 goals and put in a great cross that Romero should score and flicks on to Richy who fed Sess who should score…

atmosphere around me was horrid when they scored…I really hate it and then you look how our opposition sings. Starting to think away games only are the way forward cos I really don’t get it. I read this is our the second best start to a season ever, now I don’t have any stats to back that up so don’t know how true it is but life should be great. 3rd in league top of champs league group..instead it’s not for most.

just don’t get it

Limitations going forward still but athleticism is brilliant and his defending tonight was fantastic, can see why conte is picking him as best option right now especially in tough CL games.

Interesting! I’ve not been able to go to my season ticket seats for a while this season since first 4 games but sounds like the toxicity amongst spurs fans isn’t just in the match thread and it’s spilling to the stands that’s a shame if so.

Before Nuno was sacked I stopped going as it was not fun at all not just because of the shit football the atmosphere was just so so toxic but sad if atmosphere wasn’t good tonight, it should’ve been rocking !

Fucking Emerson Royale eh :D

A few people around me in the south stand are so quick to jump on him for the slightest thing. I would like to see someone with better end product and tenacity going forward in the final 3rd, but defensively I think he's done well overall and he's okay at progressing the ball in the middle of the pitch.

I really don't like the lack of support we show our own players and constantly berate them. Football fandom has become even more fickle and reactive, and going to games used to be a world away from that, but not anymore.

Yeah - the blokes... decent. He's not World Class. He won't ever be. We get it. We want and need better. But he's professional, hardworking and determined to improve himself.

The way people are so toxic about him - audibly in the stadium - is just so ridiculous and poisonous. And often embarrassing like when they groan he's played back pass when it's clear he's following instruction or even more embarrassing- there's no forward option.

I now just hope he doesn't start because I can't take the cringe of spurs "fans" reactions to him playing

The same in my part of the south stand…the bit that really gets on my tits is he got complained at when He had space in front of him and Romero played the pass by behind him…what’s he supposed to fucking do!!

If a display like today is superior to anything Spence can offer (according to Conte), I cannot fathom how utterly piss poor Spence must be in training. Emerson is the worst RB we have had since Chris Gunther and Alan Hutton. He makes me pine for Aurier. And Trippier is Roberto Carlos compared to this awful excuse for a RWB.

Truly baffling what Conte sees in him. Being a great trainer, is admirable. But if he performs like a 47 year old, hung over Sunday afternoon pub team player, what’s the point? He is a liability going forward. A mistake waiting to happen playing out the back. And prone to making two or three flat out catastrophic mistakes per game when defending.

Enough is enough.
