According to Transfermarkt he has only played right wing six times for Brighton.

He isn't displacing Son or getting in ahead of Richy.

We would be buying him because he's relatively cheap and affordable, I can't see any other reason.

if we want competition for Kulu then let's get just that, not an affordable player who could sort of do a job.

It will just be someone else on huge wages we can't move on.

If we get him on loan with an option would be a great bit of business. See if he can make the switch to us and is at the levels we need. If not, move on and get another player in when easier in the summer.

Not the biggest fan of this idea, but I suppose if we're on a tight budget and most of the money is going to RWB, then we could do someone like Trossard who is, at the very least, cheap, PL proven and versatile.

I can just see him being another Pienaar, though. Good player who barely gets on the pitch, clogs up the squad and then leaves for a paltry fee in 2 years time aged 30.
Bergwyjn being another recent example.

I don't massively want Trossard but he should definitely be displacing Son on current form.

Doesnt his contract end in the summer? In which case it would be a loan to free. Brighton not likely to do that. More likely a £3-5m fee now which Brighton may not see as value in comparison to league position earnings

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Ideally Son will rediscover his mojo like last season and hopefully his goal last week against Palace will help.

Supports the rumours of Conte wanting to play 3-5-2 and provides flexibility I suppose

They’ve triggered an extension for an extra year. So will be £20mil plus to buy him, which feels like a gamble if he can’t make the grade. But Paratici loves a loan so could see that being an outcome.

I agree with you and personally really rate Trossard.

However I do see the Pienaar analogy... yes, Trossard is levels above Pienaar, but then today's Spurs and our current ambitions are equivalent levels above Spurs when we bought Pienaar. The effect of Trossard coming to us may be the same... he's a big fish in a smaller pond, and I'm unsure if he is of a high enough quality to take our team/squad to the next level. Bissouma was Brighton's best player before we bought him and he is struggling to progress at Spurs, though in fairness it is very early days.

If we want to make the next step and be challenging for silverware I'm not sure Trossard is of the requisite level and he could be the next overpaid player that we struggle to get off our books. As Conte keeps repeating, we can't afford to make any more mistakes in the market.
Good points, quite simply I think he’d add great attack squad depth and provide a useful creative option different to what we currently have all at a half decent cut price as he only has 6 months left on his deal, he’s also just turned 28 so plenty of years in his legs yet too so for me it certainly wouldn’t be a ‘mistake’ signing, I’d see it as a low risk good opportunity tbh, but each to their own ofc :)

Yep I agree, not setting my pulse racing, but we don't need that. We need tactically intelligent players who can play multiple systems (he proved this already with the way Potter would adapt his tactics game to game), who can come on and make a difference. He also won't be on wild wages, Brighton do not pay wild wages. Plus £20m has become pretty much a base for any PL player that has kicked a ball and not instantly fallen over.

I have compared stats of Trossard 22-23 PL vs Son 21-22 PL vs Kane 22-23 PL : so basically against Kane' best season and Son's best season

Some of the forward passing & shot conversion stats are just brilliant from Trossard point of view

Key stats :
  1. Trossard Progressive passing is so much better than Kane, Son or Kulu
  2. His completed passes in final third is more than Kane let alone Son. Infact, if we look at stats final third passes from outside to within 6 yard box, every area he does far better
  3. His completed passes in penalty box area is more than Kane and almost double Son
  4. His shots on target is on par with this season Kane but Son is better in last season
  5. His shots per 90min is better than last season Son and slightly below this season Kane.
For me, its quite clear he is going to be a great creative player & someone who is going to contribute to goals & assist and make the difference in final third

This view probably matches the eye test as well - everytime I have seen in PL, he is Brighton's best creative player. I think he has all attributes to translate into better numbers if he joins us

Thank you! I’ve tried dropping his goal and assist numbers of the last 12 months in here to give people something to think about but this shows far better how good this guy is. He’s been absolute class the last 12 months, people that are giving strong opinions on him being average clearly haven’t actually watched much of him. Eye test and stat test shows he’s been one of the very best in the league recently. If it was a purple patch from someone like Redmond or someone shit like that I’d get the worries but Trossard has always been hugely talented and 12 months of red hot form is more than long enough for me to be convinced that he’s gone up another level when taking that into account. He’s not some shit player that’s suddenly started bagging goals and assists m, he’s an extremely technically gifted player that’s started doing it and has been doing it consistently for about a year now

I'm a fan of trossard, I think he offers something a bit different to our other options. I don't see him as much of a gamble as he has consistently performed to a good level in the PL and been exceptional this season.

Now, there are rightful question marks in the sense is he might not be a player that takes us up a level and that he primarily plays off the right. But 20m would not be a lot for a player of his qualities. Not at all.

I think people are seemingly more keen for this as they just want a signing.. rather than because he’s any good.
You can't deny we surly need new signings. Seeing how Tottenham operate and what market / conditions we tend to do business ie final year contracts etc Trossard he seems much more likely than say Zaniolo.

Note I mentioned Zaniolo as an example: I just can't see Tottenham going for him who I feel would be absolutely perfect for us and would solve / bridge many issues within our squad.

Was just reading this. Never a good look. I’d maybe get it if he was young but I’d expect more from a more experienced player.
Doesn't seem like he wants to stick around at Brighton does it? But if I were another team's manager, these sort of antics would put me off wanting to sign him.

Pity for Brighton... big game against Liverpool last weekend and they're going into it without Trossard who scored a hat-trick in their last game against Liverpool.
