Seems this thread is more relevant now, after Di Marzio update....

I dont want Poch as next manager but do agree we need a project oriented manager - back to square 1

My choice : Vincent Kompany.

Completely transformed Burnley. From shite team shite playing style to, great playing style. Its not like he bought his way out. Burnley owners sold 72m of players in summer and only gave him 24m to reinvest.

He personally brought in 3 city youngsters, 4 obscure players from Belgian league.
Now with Muric in goal, they play out from back - style just like City. Slow & steady , 63% possession (2nd behind Swansea in league). And on par for 100 pts finish.

IMO, he would suit us perfectly. Of all the recent pros doing management in football, he has got the most pedigree & world class potential
I think we'd suffer from the 'Gerrard problem'. If he comes here and does a good job he's linked to the City job. Definitely an interesting one I hadn't thought of though. But you are right, in theory he would fit Levy's dogma better than other coaches.

Tuchel wouldn't last 12 months. Knowing us we'll go for him, Zidane or Allegri.

I mentioned him in the Championship thread but think it is a bit early in terms of his managerial career. Need to see him in the PL but he is definitely impressive and has turned Burnley around particularly given the upheaval of the squad in such a short space of time.

Big fan of him and he was a very good player to boot. Always had a bit of class about him.

With City , most likely now Arteta gets the first run before Kompany.
Kompany for me has the personality and respect when he walks into the dressing room. I have seen couple of Burnley clips - its pretty clear he is going levels.

Posting here one of them, way he works with his defenders

This mentality is exactly why I don’t want Poch. Love the guy but if we all buy into the romance of his return it just gives Levy another get out of jail free card and plays right into his hands.

If we’re totally honest a Poch return has a lot of risks and probably wouldn’t work in practice, but it would gift Levy goodwill if people get caught up in the story, and that’d be so frustrating.

Not that I have a hard on for Poch as whilst ill welcome him back with open arms im also wary of going back to go forward, do you not think if Poch was going to come back that it would be a case of once bitten twice shy. I think Poch would be much more intent on getting those guarantees - now whether Levy goes back on his word again or not is another question, the past would suggest yes. But that wouldnt be giving Levy a free pass - because it seems you can go and get Tuchel and the same thing could happen to him.

One thing though you would have with Poch is someone who is proud to be a Spurs manager and has spoken fondly of us even when he was let go.

I think it’ll be Poch and it’ll be announced within 24 hours of Conte going, whether that’s this week or in June. Levy will want no vacuum in which attention could switch to chairman’s record.

Poch is who levy thinks gets him out of another hole and will appease the fans.

He literally thinks we are thick and will swallow any old shit / forget what’s happened previously. The condescending slap can do one.

I’d love Poch back, but for the right reasons, to help levy mug us off is not that reason.

Bluntly, in a scenario where Conte walks, I hope whoever we get takes Levy behind the tool shed to rinse him for what we deserve: a budget for players that gets us over the line for silverware.

Kompany is my first choice but there is a snowballs chance in hell that happens. I can’t see ENIC getting a manager without some type of experience beyond Championship. After that, I feel it’s too soon, but it’s Pochettino with a DoF that can get his profile of player. I don’t want it to be lost on anyone that Pochettino got great results but he was not good as a talent evaluator and shouldn’t be left to do that.

Kompany comes across really well. What's his preferred formation, anyone? Does he change it up sometimes depending on scoreline or opponent? De Zerbi is another, as well as Frank, who clearly has something about him...

But does it really matter who we get if Levy is still there? And if not Poch it'll be Mason till the end of the season- which, this time, I don't think the fans would accept...

Nah, Poch did very well with a limited squad and yet again no backing from above.

personally, the mentality needs to shift from seeking a winner (which we already have in conte) and look above woth a bird that’s simply not giving him the players to win with.

my fortunately we need a big overhaul, which will cost money - the mentality that’s needed is a bit of ruthlessness (get rid of players not up to it quickly) and being in players that are, quickly - no fucking around, let’s be honest, we have never seen a transfer go through quick, yet Arsenal turn around the likes of trossard within 24 hours… after we apparently courted him for 2 weeks (agent speak I know).

winning mentality starts with leadership still.

Yeah it would be awful if the fans got behind a manager and the team. There is no place for romance in football. Just teeth gnashing and moaning.

I'm Conte in. I want him to be given the time to build his team and see where that goes.

But if he leaves I want Poch back. I've literally only just realised this. I want a manager who loves the club as much as I do.

I think we need to catch 'em early. You want future rather than the past (which few of our failed appointments have been). Rather than Poch I would look for up & coming manager with new ideas.

Just some info that I believe got missed on Thomas Tuchel.

Paul O Keefe was of the opinion that Tuchel didn’t actually have any interest in managing the club.
The rumours going around was that Chelsea’s media were informed to leak that false news to try and tarnish Tuchel with the Chelsea fans, as they still keep singing his name at games.

Im always lured by the exciting unknown so have picked Gallardo - based on hardly anything really.

Does anyone know how he sets up and how our current squad would suit his needs?
