Just out of interest, does anyone know the 'record' for the highest league position (we'll say premier league only) a team has currently been in only for the manager to then be sacked mid season?

I'm guessing Moyes at Man Utd. Only because a manager being sacked while a team is in the European places well into a season has to be seriously underachieving and not have any credit in the bank. He had the team that was defending champions down in 7th.

AVB and Mourinho were both 5th at Chelsea - Mancini was 2nd but there was one game left.

If levy wants the Poch appointment to take the heat off him (as has been mooted by everyone for the last 6 months) then he doesn’t sack Conte during the season and bring Poch in now. He waits and sees if the scum win the league and Kane agitates for a move. Both those things happen, the fanbase will rightly be as toxic as it’s ever been. Even if we get fourth it won’t mask those two things happening. So his last roll of the dice will to bring Poch in then to placate some of the fanbase. Doing it during the season leaves him with no dice to roll at all.
This presumes that he makes decisions solely on what he thinks the fans will moan about.

Pretty simple. Levy wont sack Conte midseason because he wont want to put his hand in his pocket. Conte will be here until end of season unless he walks. If thats the case it will be Mason for the remainder.

Romano seems to think he’s here till May/June (about the same time we find out about Paratici’s fate) and then a decision will be made. I think that’s the correct way to go about things. If we have to play one game a week he could still achieve top four. We saw that last season.

That's more on Levy than on Conte though. Especially the bit in bold.

Oh yeah, I agree. He's infatuated with the idea of big-name managers but not interested in recruiting the profile of players those managers are accustomed to working with. So what's the point? We should have been building the last three or four years. Instead, we hired two managers who are renowned for short-term stints managing elite-level squads.

The first few months of poch was terrible.

I remember feeling a similar loss of identity.

It only really started changing when Mason came in vs forest in the league cup.
Thats very true and often overlooked.

Poch would need a fair bit of time. Some are deluding themselves id they think Poch walks through the door and we instantly start playing football we saw in 2017

There’s nothing like a bit of decisive action. And this is nothing like a bit of decisive action. He’s not going to be in charge for pre-season training in July. Nobody can seriously believe he will be. Pay him off and let Poch get back to work, salvage some scraps of this season, assess the squad, and be ready to go for next.

Unless our next manager is currently employed (and that would mean we have a plan in place which let's face it is laughable to even think that) it's a farce for Conte to still be in the role. If our next manager is currently unemployed then shake hands with Conte and appoint the new manager, will give the manager much needed time with players which will help in starting next season.

Let's face facts our season is done, we won't get top 4 and can't see us getting past an average Milan side but even if we did we'll get beaten in next round (and potentially hammered if we get a top side). This isn't fatalism it's just being realistic.

Problem with not knowing is it will impact the summer transfer window if we don't know what coach we are buying players for.

Then again, with our scatter gun transfer policy i'm not even sure it matters!!

With Trix's latest info saying a Cleague exit will bring it all to a head, I am fairly certain no one really knows what's going on, including Danny Boy and Conte.

It’s mad if we’re genuinely going to be in limbo until May and it’s madder if we’re letting him decide if we’re worth another season whilst he underperforms in this one.

Is it worth keeping Conte for another season if it means Kane signing a new deal?
Fairly sure the players are fed up with the will he wont he stay crap, I doubt Kanes new contract will be based on whether Conte graces us with his presence for another year.

To be fair we have built more so now than we did under Poch. We have plenty of young players for the future. I don't think this last 2 years has been the waste of time some have been making out on here. Managers come and go every few years at most clubs. I'm just glad we've been signing players during that time so if we move onto another manager we have plenty to work with. In fact if anything we've still signed more players for the future under Conte so we probably suit more a man manager who can build them. The only exception really is Perisic and he was on a free.

Got to be honest, if we fire Conte on Thursday and bring in Poch on Friday or Saturday im going to be pretty disappointed/annoyed. More so then I am already. Not that I want Conte to stay or don't want Poch to come, but it would so clearly be another decision by the club with zero serious thought put into it.

Agree with this. It would be complete bullshit.

Tbh though while we're 4th in the table, or at least in with a good chance of finishing 4th, I doubt Levy will pull the trigger. Makes no sense. Especially as Conte hasn't lost the dressing room, and we've still been picking up results, albeit punctuated by frustrating losses.

It's in no way comparable to sacking Mourinho, who it was clear had lost the dressing room, and spent nearly every post match interview throwing players under the bus.
