Mentioning body language in here often gets a deserved clobbering...But I felt Ryan's 'He's out for the season' in the presser was kinda said in a way that brooked no further discussion. We'll get the answer in a few years when the books come out imo.
I thought the same when watching it.

He’s only 36, which isn’t that old for a goalkeeper.

And Forster is only a little younger than him at 35…
Lloris has played a lot of football, and barely had a summer off what with France getting far in most tournaments in the last decade. His body failing is one thing, but the more important fact is that he’s started doubting himself because of it, which is a killer for a keeper.

I won't buy into it that he's injured. He has had a fall out.
This is a player who has been here for 10 years, never been a cause of problems, has captained the club for years and who went out after the Newcastle to meet the press....

And you are telling me that he has all of a sudden had such a bad fallout that he has been banished from playing?

Might want to take of that tin foil hat of yours for a bit.

Good point about Lloris having played a lot of football, as we forget how much they must put their bodies through at times.

Forster hasn’t had as much international football and has also had spells in past in being dropped when his form dipped,

Goalkeeping is a complex art, always makes me think how Paul Robinson went from being absolutely immense to being quite shakey in a small amount of time (I blame you Gary Neville!).

Not necessarily been banished, he opted to not play.

Goalkeeping has changed, it’s not just about stopping shots and catching crosses. Playing with the ball at your feet and distribution are now just as important. Unfortunately Hugo is lacking in those and therefore the whole team panics when he has the ball.

ps i don’t think he’s injured 🤕

He's been a great servant and it's so sad that people make this shit up in their heads. That being said the difference in having Kane as captain over Lloris is huge. You can't have your captain be so shaky on the ball, it makes the rest of the defence uneasy. Kane on the other hand just always looks so assured on the ball and when he defends does so calmly.

I wonder if that bad injury he suffered v Brighton has had a longer lasting affect on him than we realise. Shame to see it end so badly (like Lucas). Great representives of the club and have been here through good times as well as bad. I hope his final years don't override the majority of his time with us for the fanbase. I'll always remember the penalty save v City in the champions league (was there that night and it was like we had scored a goal).

Can't ever hate Hugo, and I can't ever hate Lucas. If he gets his deserved testimonial I will 100% be buying a ticket. He should have a proper farewell.

As others have said: the way a few of you talk about Lloris make me feel we don’t deserve good things.

He’s easily one of our 3 top goalies over the last 50 odd years together with Jennings and Clemence (imho better than the latter for us).

Yes, he’s done mistakes. Cost us points. But name me one player who hasn’t! I saw a stat earlier today that he has cost us 4 goals this season: I’d claim that’s peanuts compared to what Dier or Romero have cost us. Goalie mistakes are in a way worse than missed penalties - they’re instantly there on the scoreboard.

But what about all the points he has saved? They by far - very, very far - outnumber the mistakes.

Admittedly not the best with the ball at his feet, but his goal saving skills is superior to most and inferior to none. Aügero’s penalty in the Champions League, THAT save against Leverkusen (?) in Europe … his time with Spurs are littered with such amazing saves.

For his time, efforts, amazing skill, professionalism, dedication to this club and the fans he should be lauded. If there is one single member of this squad that truly deserves a testimonial, it’s Hugo.

Said as much probably in this thread a few months back, but 10 years just knowing the no1 spot is solid should not be sniffed at (and i'm of the opinion that his drop off hasnt been as bad as many make out, albeit in the minority flying that flag) , but just did quick google to recall the timeline of starting keepers since 2000:

'00 - '02 Sullivan
'02-'04 Keller
'04-'08 Robinson
'08-'11 Gomes
'12 Friedel
'13 onwards Hugo

5 average/below par keepers in 12 years. If this is his last year as our starter i'm praying we get another as good as hugo.....should be easy enough right....

I'll be honest from what I heard at the time I think this is just a face saving exercise for someone who has given everything to the club for such a long period of time.

He'll be replaced at the end of the season and this way he goes out as club captain who couldn't finish his final few games due to injury rather than, dropped to the bench because he was a liability making mistake after mistake and costing the team points.

I am more than fine with that personally as I'd like to remember him for what he was not what he has been this season.

That's very harsh on Friedel. He was very competent.

Oddly enough Gomes was also absolutely immense in the run-up of the 09/10 season where we secured CL football for the first time. Overall he had too many crazy moments though.

It's one of the most crucial positions though, so really hope we prioritise it this summer.

As a former keeper I sometimes view then differently to others, and overall I would say Gomes was underrated and Friedel was overrated by most. With Gomes he If would pull off a save no one else would then drop a clanger and the net impact is zero. There is a confidence element but Friedel was glued to his line so didn’t drop crosses or miss the ball charging out for 1:1s, but we probably conceded more goals as a result. If Gomes came for 10 crosses and dropped one at an attackers feet for a tap in and everyone thinks that is 1 goal he’s cost us, whereas Friedel stays on his line and 2 goals are scored from headers and everyone blames the defence. Hugo is definitely more at the Gomes end of the scale

True, but apart from his kicking Hugo rarely catches a corner cleanly these days.

Thoughts from your view on Forster being on the Freidel end of the scale? Not necessarily staying on his line but he just looks so stiff going for dives on the stretch/low im not convinced hes a massive upgrade on lloris except for as you say in your example the more glaring clangers are less frequent.

By far the best backup i feel like we've had for a good while though for sure.
